New article on the history of Western fertility in Aporia magazine. I divide it into five chronological stages.
"It can be easy for pronatalists interested in demography to engage in doom-mongering about the strong negative trends of the past half-century, but things can and have changed fast in both directions. The future is malleable."

@suryakane @VivekGRamaswamy Yes. Leave. Go back to your own country (glad you're not pretending to be American any more) and build it up. This is better for everyone. Vivek should leave too - shitting on American culture is OK, but only if you're actually right, which he wasn't.

Framing Afrikaners and South African blacks as equally "victims of bad governance" is such a slimy rhetorical move. Who's doing the governing?
White farmers in South Africa are getting murdered in gruesome torturous ways. Buried alive, tortured with blow torches, by boiling water being poured down the throat, etc. The torturous killings are extended for hours, and are carried out with racist hatred. The Black government does not protect the White farmers. Instead they get crowds to chant along with "Kill the Boer, kill the farmer". Imagine living in a country as a minority race, where the elected politicians literally sing about killing you, your property is confiscated because of your race, and any day your home may be invaded by people who hate you for you race, and you and your family will be raped, tortured and killed. And until this Executive Order, you may have had nowhere in the world to flee to. But Tyler Cowen thinks its an inversion of reality to think that White farmers could be "supposed real victims".

Only if we deport the Bidenwave, which means 10xing deportation numbers.
Really bears repeating, the worst mistake ever was stealing the 2020 election. Those 4 years to build, shedding Pence, Trump standing resolute, dems blowing their time in power, it all led to this. Possibly the biggest self-own in the history of the world.

@GaryMarcus Can't spend generations turning academia into Communist agitprop, then turn around and complain about right-wing Americans no longer being willing to fund. You could've fought the left 10, 20, 30 years ago rather than allow your institution to become partisan dreck.

Very good example of how your immigration criteria will be gamed by bad actors and need to be robust to that.
A second woman has been arrested on suspicion of fraudulently completing citizenship tests for 12 genuine applicants. She allegedly used multiple disguises, wigs and doctored ID documents to evade detection.

@jonatanpallesen Even smart people don't seem to understand that comparative advantage doesn't apply if you can trivially copy the better worker. Doubly so if the subsistence needs of the better worker are also 1000x lower.

Yglesias, who hates Trump and regularly slanders him and his supporters, thinks increasing Indian immigration as part of a Trudeau-style "pro-growth agenda*," is a great idea. *Terms and conditions, such as no actual growth, may apply. But food delivery apps will do well.
There was a debate a few weeks ago about whether Trump should embrace skilled workers as part of a pro-growth agenda, or whether anti-Indian racism should be the controlling principle. Elez has a strong point of view on this issue that I disagree with.

It's from Ryan Burge, who's a subject-matter specialist. And you're just wrong here - I recommend the Coming Apart chapter on the subject, but every up-to-date source will tell you the same thing (eg . Religious attendance is highest among the college-educated middle class (college-educated rich is lower - but most college educated are middle class). Here is where that chart come from.

The first generation to mouth blank-slatists platitudes knew that racism was correct and just pretended. The current ones don't even know they're wrong, hence:
British politicians and civil servants genuinely believe this is a 'puzzle' - importing a million Bomalians to mill about all day in town centres didn't lead to an increase in output. They are genuinely baffled at this.

@YuukimaruRP No, it says that wealthier/more educated Americans are more likely to be churchgoers.
