I think the big takeaway from this book is that high-skilled immigration from India is a terrible idea, because they form ethnic networks (zero-sum) to shut out Americans. The small boost a company gets from hiring one is not worth the long term transformation of institutions.

I've checked the sources on this meme - it's actually accurate. Not 100% representative of actual levels of repression, since a good deal of state punishment in Russia is less-than-formal, but a good counterpoint to the by now absurd idea of the Free World.
UK is uniquely repressive by Western standards (several thousand people have been arrested for blaspheming the state cults since 2010), so the usual pressure releases in the electoral process don't exist as they do elsewhere.
