In 1982 gov funded 82.7% of Canada’s public university operating revenues. By 2012 that dropped to 54.9%. By 2019, it plummeted to around 43%, except in Ontario where ‘public’ universities have just 24% of their costs met by government.

Many Halifax students are due to move at the end of the April. Apparently landlords are telling COVID-exposed students they must break mandatory self-isolation to move out (rent vans etc) by the end of the month or face penalties. Is this legal?

Fiona was not the first clean up we have needed and it certainly won't be the last. NSP needs to be regulated into doing the work to prevent these costs from being incurred in the first place, not allowed to rely on the backs of Nova Scotians to bail them out.

The horrifying toll of Sweden's keep-the-economy-going pandemic policy - If Sweden had Norway’s death rate, it would have suffered only 4,429 deaths from COVID during the pandemic, instead of more than 18,500.
As for building codes, in wildfire prone areas, shake tile roofs and wooden decks should be outlawed. Mandatory brush/tree clearances around houses. Stone and brick construction encouraged. Like that.

We don’t give up when people need us most. That’s not who we are.
Our democracy is at a faint heartbeat; it was broken even before Trump. But so long as we can save lives, I believe we have an obligation to do so as we build a new world.
