This is not the first trade a team made with the Lakers to support relocation. The league obviously loves (needs) a strong Lakers team to generate a modicum of interest in the NBA (at least stateside). In the 90’s, Hornets (1st edition) were ready to relocate- so traded Kobe to the Lakers for vlade divac. (Charlotte newspaper said it was the greatest trade in hornets team history at the time lol). Other teams passed on drafting Kobe because he told them he wanted to go to the Lakers -who drafted 29 (hornets 13th pick). Hornets relocated to New Orleans not much after this. Like the mavericks to Vegas-Made easier because Dallas fans hate the mavericks now. Hornets didn’t pursue any other trades for Kobe except with the lakers, just like mavs.
