@xiaowang1984 Yes. In engineering we're also required by the university to add in the crazy 60% overhead for grant applications. So we have instead mostly targeted 'gifts' from industry for research instead of govt grants. Zero overhead on gifts.
It's not just in Health. Such levels of overhead are common across other fields too - it's why salaries for academic administrators continue to rise inexorably compared to those actually doing the science. One bureaucracy nourishing another.

@roozb1234 I mean to be fair if someone thinks tariffs will do incredible harm then they might also believe it won't last for very long and we'd reach a deal. In which case I don't think buying the dips is irrational or inconsistent.

@roozb1234 Yeah for Robinhood I meant options trading, but point taken on bond markets too. With Kalshi I think the inflation related bets are all going to be 'hot' now

Big fan of MM but this idea that Elon is 'just' some marketing whiz is false. For some reason a lot of academics keep pushing this notion. Elon was chief rocket engineer at SpaceX, led vehicle design at Tesla. Here's a snippet from the recent Isaacson biography. Read the book!
All those critiquing @elonmusk (rightly so) should begin by questioning those calling him a “genius” or even a “tech bro”. He invented NONE of the TECH. Just bought stuff at the right time. More marketing than science. He’s benefitted by billions of government dollars that he questions when given to others. Clear regressive political agenda: underfund government (even more) hoping that deregulation and a weak state can make outer space his playground & sling mud like a child at all progressive politicians like @Keir_Starmer. I wrote about this more than a decade ago in my book The Entrepreneurial State.
