An individual says some crass, nasty shit… Netizens get pissed off and an outrage follows. Natural. Fair enough so far. The dude realises his joke was in poor taste, didn’t sit well the morals of the majority and as a result, triggered a massive section. He goes on to render an apology. But the mob continues to rage out. It escalates and legal repercussions follow. So what exactly is the objective of the outrage? To destroy and bury the individual completely? To make him an example of what? To prove what? And those who are doing this seem to disillusioned that they are partaking in some sort of activism or a social justice movement. Yeah, anyone who questions the nonsensical and disproportionate nature of consequences will be labelled a sympathiser because that’s the easiest thing to do. That individual might have said a hundred unfunny, dumb, debatable and problematic things but this outburst ain’t a proportionate response. It’ll never make sense and cannot be justified on any grounds. To remind, this circus was triggered by an unoriginal, tasteless joke…
