@rt_gale99 @newsandpics @BenGoldsmith It would be interesting to see the approved restock map for the whole plantation - often there’s a significant drop in the area of Sitka when these first rotation blocks are felled and replanted.

@TonyJuniper @BenGoldsmith Same could be said for the term “grazing” . In reality & practice there is differentiation about “forest” whether in woodland creation grant schemes, timber investments or when using the Woodland Carbon Code, or when applied to largely open areas like “Forest of Bowland”

@rt_gale99 @newsandpics @BenGoldsmith “They” manage the majority of UK commercial forestry in line with both of the main international standards for sustainable forest management. They are still felling 1st rotation crops, and often the limited BL planting isn’t windfirm, 2nd rotation will have less 🌲 & more 🌳

@TonyJuniper @BenGoldsmith With regard timber crops, agreed, are you suggesting that Short Rotation Forestry should be treated the same as Short Rotation Coppice ie as an agricultural crop and broadly similar to a wheat field, and so exempt from UKFS ?

@GarethDennis Have a day trip on the bus up to Santa Cruz de Tenerife and have a walk around the city, north of the island feels very different.

@NTBCC @jennipisces @theSpurtle That’s good to hear - I haven’t checked recently but last summer the middle tree looked fairly dead, and upper tree was also struggling a bit. Perhaps the developer can improve conditions & space for them.

@cat_frampton @HPG_Farmer @MaryCreagh_ @SteveReedMP If initial proposal doesn’t meet UKFS then it shouldn’t get approved. If a Forester thinks an application won’t be approved then they usually won’t waste much time pushing it fwd. Some projects may not be implemented as per approved plan, and they sometimes may not get checked.
