For years, I’ve been emphasizing the need of explainable and accountable AI. EasyGov AI application based on Bayesian and Decision tree can respond to RTI application. How many AI systems can respond to an RTI query? RTO is not mandatory for the private sector but transparency is desirable. Why? Because without it, businesses are thriving, but at what cost? Data is now more valuable than ever, yet our approach to AI governance is falling behind. We’ve entered a world where data is power, where businesses and governments treat us as products. The rise of AI isn’t just about innovation - it's about limiting the use that can harm democracy and humanity. And what’s the result? ❌ Lack of regulation: Countries like the U.S. have let AI companies grow into digital monopolies. Google maps to every app that seeks you location permission knows where you go, what you eat, even what your personality type- all without any legal authority or accountability. We may argue with UIDAI for confidentiality of 12 digit random Aadhar number but ok with sharing 24 by 7 our location with maps. ❌ Data exploitation: Data-driven monopolies like Google, facebook, Amazon, Microsoft decides the rules of the game in each and every country. There is no need to go to parliament! Did you know a single apparent privacy violation or change in cloud policy or price could cripple a business like Paytm for years? So, what’s the solution? We need AI4Good and AI4All that protects not just help businesses but protect people and democracy: -Open standards: Let’s stop companies from monopolizing tech. We need standardized systems across the board. -Revocable rights: Your data should be yours. You should have the right to revoke access at any time. -Granular permissions: No more blanket access. Authorities should only access what’s necessary, nothing more. -Transparency by design: Every move should be auditable - who accessed your data and why. What’s the impact? ✅ Fairer markets: Stronger regulations mean no more monopolies dictating what apps we use or what data is harvested. ✅ Empowered consumers: You control your data - no more backdoor access or unclear terms of service. ✅ Better AI governance: AI is not the master, it’s a tool. We must limit the risks it poses to democracy, public safety, and individual rights. AI is not the enemy, but without regulation, it can easily become one. The European Union AI Act is a start, but we need global cooperation. Let’s demand better standards, better transparency, and fairer systems. Like, share, and let’s get this conversation going - how can we harness AI without losing ourselves in the process? #nceg #Ai4good #ailaw @peopleplusai

I discussed Panchayati Raj state with Uttar Pradesh's two popular Gram Pradhan. Let me start with a question; Do you think mid-day meals pull kids to go to a government school? Government believed, I believed…but the reality is quite different. In my recent conversation with two truly inspiring Gram Pradhans from Uttar Pradesh, @Sarpanch_Rajpur Ji and @AmitBharteey Ji, who highlighted some interesting points. Their experiences revealed key truths about local governance, people on the ground, and the system. Mid-day meals don't encourage kids to come to school Lack of collaboration in decision-making Processes don't help much at times To some extent it’s TRUE! What’s more important is — the quality of education. Amit Ji shared an example of a school in his village that undertakes classes and even exams under a tree. Ironically, classes are run by individuals hired as ad hoc teachers by the regular teachers. Consequently, the quality of education goes down and parents don’t let their kids go to school. Once a parent said to Amit Ji, “Bacche school me padhne jaate hain, khane nahi!”—When Amit Ji took initiative to increase the attendance and went to a student’s home. As is obvious from this instance, the people on the ground are more affected by any errors on the ground. Therefore, people who know best how to fix it are the people on the ground. That’s why devolution of power is important. If we go by the book, the issues have to be raised in a Gram Sabha, which is a meeting of at least 20% of the voters in a Gram Panchayat. The decision with a majority mandate is the decision of the Gram Panchayat and consolidates local governance. There have been allegations that the Gram Sabhas on Meri Panchayat are faked and that the decisions taken do not have the mandate of the people. The lack of collaboration in decision-making leads to a conflict of interest between the people on the ground and Gram Pradhans. We saw how it affected the budget allocation and the access to resources. The podcast will be LIVE soon. I have a question: How do you think the local government is affected by the Gram Sabha? Let me know in the comments. @MoRD_GoI @mopr_goi @GramPanchayatHQ @heeralalias

#RepublicDay2025 #GramSwaraj #EmpoweredVillages #StrongPanchayats #ConstitutionDay #JaiHind #EmpowerPanchayat #RuralIndia

I am not a big fan of Large Language Models. In fact, India should not adopt the approach of developing a LARGE language model. Instead, we should focus on SMALL language models—very specific and designed for special purposes, capable of answering complex queries and solving critical problems within a particular industry. For example, we could create a law-specific language model or, even more precisely, a science language model, or perhaps a physics language model. If we cluster all these small language models together and, instead of building a massive knowledge graph, create a simple directory or index for these models, users could select the respective language model to get specific answers. There will be some limitations, though. Such models may not answer questions that are very broad or cut across multiple language models. However, if we use RAG to frame user queries in a way that breaks the query into smaller components, these components can retrieve answers from the relevant small language models. This approach provides a strategic advantage for India. First of all, it doesn’t require very high computational bandwidth, so we can rely on indigenously built, low-cost memory and computing infrastructure. Second, there is less dependency on external data. These models will be built using data generated in India, making them more capable of providing better answers in the Indian context. We should adopt a Digital Public Goods (DPG) approach to LLMs as well, focusing on solving real problems with resources developed indigenously. We should work with a minimalistic approach and adhere to the principle of single responsibility. The goal should not be to create a tech monopoly but to solve specific problems in specific industries. I believe we should avoid the trap of large language models. Even if we solve business problems using large language models, we would end up giving away more than 50% of the revenue to tech monopolies, whether they are LLM companies or hardware providers. India should carve its own path instead of falling into the trap of digital monopolies again. @simpler_today @aravindsrinivas @RajeevRC_X @GramPanchayatHQ @EasyGov @reliancejio @perplexity_ai @deepseek_ai #SmallLLM #SimplerToday #AI4People

Re India training its foundation models debate: I feel like India fell into the same trap I did while running Perplexity. Thinking models are going to cost a shit ton of money to train. But India must show the world that it's capable of ISRO-like feet for AI. Elon Musk appreciated ISRO (not even Blue Origin) because he respects when people can get stuff done by not spending a lot. That's how he operates. I think that's possible for AI, given the recent achievements of DeepSeek. So, I hope India changes its stance from wanting to reuse models from open-source and instead trying to build muscle to train their models that are not just good for Indic languages but are globally competitive on all benchmarks. I'm not in a position to run a DeepSeek-like company for India, but I'm happy to help anyone obsessed enough to do it and open-source the models.

It was profoundly inspiring to hear the Hon’ble Prime Minister, @NarendraModi Ji, reflect on his journey and vision for India during @NikhilKamath’s podcast. As a social entrepreneur, I deeply relate to the Honorable Prime Minister’s vision of empowering panchayats, women, and youth. My entrepreneurial journey has concentrated on three critical areas: Beneficiary Coverage and Social Protection, Empowering Panchayats, Women and Youth, and the Judiciary—each of which he highlighted as integral to the foundation of 'Viksit Bharat'. 1. Beneficiary Coverage and Social Protection The primary challenge in social protection is accurately identifying beneficiaries and ensuring they receive the necessary support. While technology, such as Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) and artificial intelligence, enhances efficiency, genuine change occurs through active citizen engagement in governance. At @EasyGov, we positively impacted millions by integrating technology with grassroots democracy. 2. Empowering Panchayats, Women, and Youth Panchayats are the soul of Indian democracy, with 2.7 lakh Panchayats and over 25 lakh elected members. With one-third to one-half of positions reserved for women and a minimum age of 21, they empower both women and youth. The Gram Sabha exemplifies participatory politics, enabling direct citizen involvement and serving as a model for grassroots political reform. Through @EmpowerPanchayat, I am dedicated to developing young, progressive village leaders who will drive positive change in India. 3. Judiciary In my journey from advocating for social justice to promoting justice for all, I have realized that access to justice remains a distant dream for rural and marginalized communities. According to various reports, the judiciary will require approximately 100 years to resolve the existing backlog of cases. It’s time to bridge this gap and make justice faster, fairer, and more accessible. @simpler_today @mopr_goi @DARPG_GoI @GoI_MeitY @MoRD_GoI
