You know I never noticed in this cut that the insert is pure reaction. The hit already happened and we get an insert of just the follow through. I think western media trains us to cut on the impact itself but this is like icing on a brilliant cake.
Completely forgot where I got this screen shot but if it’s yours tag yourself. I died laughing when I saw this and said “Hadounkey”
Then I had big brain
Clearing out some files and found this Ducks/Simpsons crossover I did a couple years ago. Apropos since I'm finally watching Simpsons from the beginning again.
I don’t post a ton of personal info on here for the sake of privacy but I just spent a week in the hospital with my incredible wife working on bringing home our first daughter. Spike(not her real name) is funny & sweet & really clever. I’ve finally earned my terrible dad jokes.
No controversial takes today. Just thinking about some sage advice I’ve heard over and over that’s finally sinking in. That great idea for a fic or fanart or the wish to make something with your favorite characters could be a great basis for your own original project.
Not every Sag/Aftra Actor is making Tom Cruise Money. Not every Writer in the WGA is making Aaron Sorkin money.
Just like the 'real' world those are the 1% & the rest are just trying to live. Entertainment can appear like some glamorous thing, but it's still a pay tiered job.
Akira Toriyama helped me stop getting bullied in Jr High. A couple of kids used to slap me around and when I drew a Vegeta in art class they asked for it and I gave it to them. They never bothered me again.
I’m Matthew Humphreys. I’m a TAG director and storyboard artist for the last 17 years and I’m a person and all my coworkers are people who deserve respect and fair treatment.

Thank you to my fellow queer professionals speaking out about Disney's donations to Dont Say Gay backers. i wish I had something more to add to the conversations but you're all covering our collective feelings so completely. Just thank you.
Hey everyone. I’m starting a Storyboards101 channel. It’ll be a series of short vid breaking down fundamentals for beginning story boarding. The first video is up with thanks to
@eugenecommodore
for letting me use a board idea he had for this breakdown
What's a comic book moment that lives in your head rent free?
Here's mine:
I mean how do you take a static drawing of an unexpressive robot AND STILL manage to convey such heartbreak.
Lots of productions out there burning people out but let me tell you. I got to do a little bit of work on My Adventures With Superman and man. What a great crew. Rarely do I come across a production so well run and with such great folks on it as that. Just some positivity.
One more from an abandoned boarding tips pamphlet thing I was making. When I finally get some time to make a boarding video this will have more context.
I know a lot of us say it but it bears repeating. If you’re trying to get a storyboarding job, please make your boards easy to find. Doesn’t have to be a professional website but just find a way to make your work shine for you.
feeding the baby when I heard
@MatthewMercer
Singing a Boyz II Men song on IG. It threw me back to nostalgia so I pulled up the song on Spotify and the baby was dancing along until dada started singing. she looked me dead in the eyes and covered her ears with both hands. Critic.
After Arcane I gotta think long & hard about what video game property I would try to bring to series.
Top of my head would be
Legend of Zelda as a 2d animated miyazaki inspired fantasy story. Each season a different timeline.
or
Nier Automata if I want people to cry a lot.
Whenever I & many board artists start a new show we often draw characters in action over & over trying to find the simplest shorthand they can that still conveys the needed info & also will be enjoyable to draw thru. Finding your shorthand is a great first step on a new job.
Odd thing I’ve noticed watching older animated series. The 4:3 format forced a lot more use of depth of field. Really nice compositions in this because they were forced to make use of the smaller work area.
Had a dream last night where I was playing a guest char on Critical Role. He's a spoiled prince gunslinger class who knew of VM as legends & fixated on Percy as a fearless badass who ran headlong into danger. He decided Royals Only Live Once & would run into combat shouting ROLO.
I can't recall if I've ever drawn Tatsumaki before. Pretty sure I've only ever really drawn Saitama and Genos. I really need to make more OPM Fanart in 2020.
Working on CG shows, I truly appreciate animation moments like this. So often it's a compromise of assets and nuance so you just have to cut a moment because it's hard to pull off and yet here's this truly complicated cg animation moment there for character building.

Scott Pilgrim has his own Subspace powers because there’s NO WINDOW. The apartment is embedded in the ground.
Very old news but I somehow never noticed this.
