#Syria’s newly appointed President is “authorized” to form a “temporary” legislative body. What laws will it pass? If it tackles the election system & appoints an election management body, we may see a hyper presidential system; this doesn’t bode well for establishing democracy.
Major decisions Today in Syria: - Ahmed Al-Sharaa has been appointed as the President of Syria for the transitional period. - President Ahmed Al-Sharaa is authorized to form a temporary legislative council for the transitional phase, which will carry out its duties until a permanent constitution is enacted and comes into effect. - The Syrian revolution has been declared victorious, and December 8 of each year is designated as a national day. - The 2012 Constitution is annulled, and all exceptional laws are revoked. - The Syrian Parliament and all its affiliated committees has been dissolved. - The Syrian Army has been dissolved and will be restructured on national principles. - All Syrian security branches has been dissolved. - The Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party, the National Progressive Front parties, and their affiliated organizations, institutions, and committees are dissolved. Their reformation under any other name is prohibited, and all their assets will be transferred to the Syrian state. - All rebels' military factions, political and civil revolutionary bodies are dissolved and will be integrated into state institutions.
