@sussexlc @HCsick @Should_I_Pay @TheRising_Moon @DanNeidle You can't rely on HMRC for giving advice - even on matters about which it should be an expert & will ultimately opine on - you can rely on them to back peddle, obfuscate, drag their feet & change the law retrospectively & then die in a ditch gaslighting anyone who challenges.

@BTC_Adviser @PrivateIncome @_LamNam_ @robprogressive Interesting. But presumably level of cover remains the same (ie if cover starts at age 30 and you accumulate wealth and / or IHT rules change) you get the same pay out. Sorry naturally suspicious of all insurance.

@PrivateIncome @_LamNam_ @BTC_Adviser @robprogressive Presumably the insurance company puts it up every year to reflect the increased risk you are going to die (spoiler alert.....). "Oh you are about to die and you have taxable assets that will result in an IHT bill of £400,000 - your insurance premium will be £410,000 - thanks!".

@HCsick @LC_Impact @LCAG_2019 @loanchargeAPPG Well said - exactly the same with film tax relief which was promoted by successive chancellors, highly reputable accountants, tax advisers & banks. It wasn't too good to be true - it was entirely possible to lose money from day 1. Screwed despite CoA finding in taxpayers' favour.

@daxdasilva can you recommend a good Point of Sale system please? I'm at my wits end with Lightspeed R - it really is not fit for purpose and seems to be very unloved. I need a reliable system that provides accurate info to accounts package and has reliable API's.

@DanNeidle @GabrielleO61890 If this isn’t institutional racketeering I don’t know what is. HMRC needs root and branch reform and to be held fully accountable.

@sussexlc @loanchargeAPPG There’s a pattern that goes beyond loan charge. I recently shared my experience with MP @GregoryStafford & have offered to assist the APPG on Taxpayer Fairness in highlighting the barefaced lies & disinformation concocted by HMRC to justify their blatant disregard for fairness.

@sussexlc @DanNeidle Or HMRC themselves? Was told tax relief on investments I made had tacit approval from HMRC. Confirmed when HMRC refunded tax to me. Changed their minds 8 years later & took another 12 years to lose at CoA, but still ‘win’ as allowed to calculate tax as though they hadn’t lost?!

@DanNeidle Oddly enough the boot is occasionally on the other foot where HMRC will argue for CGT treatment rather than IT (when it is to their advantage). More inconsistency / asymmetry.

@rbusfield Inevitably HMRC will pursue whichever outcome results in more tax payable irrespective previous case law or common sense. LLP I am in was trading and trading with a view to a profit, but tax calculated as though it was not because CGT treatment meant majority of cost ignored.

@HCsick @MichelProcessor @sussexlc @skwoolley @NotRichYoungFa1 @iananthonyjames @clairol007 @RedLaser4000 @rosaltmann @loanchargeAPPG @LordsEconCom No of course not, but the really big questions that ‘normal’ people would understand to be life changing. Judges making decisions can’t see wood for trees. It doesn’t bother them that wrong decision made so long as process followed. They don’t see injustice in people bankrupted.

Are there any real sanctions? Or do they just not care about being caught in a lie so long as it aligns with their narrative? Wouldn’t it be great if HMRC had to put its case before a jury?!
