Our findings reinforce the sense that the current escalation, like many before it, would likely leave little mark on public opinion. For better or worse, non-violent signals have greater power to shift status-quo attitudes. More in our (open access) paper.

My findings don't refute structural arguments, which remain strong & convincing. But they show that there are other important and complementary micro-level explanations that parties and researchers could address. More (including my grateful acknowledgments) in the paper. /fin
