H.R.29 LAKEN RILEY ACT ANALYSIS: The Laken Riley Act will be the first immigration law under the Trump Administration. Many misunderstand the bill’s primary goal. Even Dem lawmakers incorrectly say it lets ICE detain migrant kids. 🤦‍♀️So what does it actually do? Answer: It lets DHS deport a new category of criminal aliens—migrants who legally paroled into the U.S. under fraud, like José Antonio Ibarra, the migrant who killed Laken Riley. Here’s how. 🧵

Today, Mexico’s President falsely claimed the US dropped charges against ex-Defense Minister Cienfuegos for lack of evidence in ’21. In reality, AMLO forced the US to drop the case by threatening to end security ties. Her defense of him signals she may not cooperate in the US fight against cartels.
Algo no anduvo bien en la mañanera del dĂa de hoy… Agarraron a la presidenta un poco de mal humor…

What will El Salvador get in return for taking third-country deportees? Trump’s paradigm shift on immigration could turn the issue into a tool to reward good state actors, and punish bad ones. There are 2.5M Salvadorans in the US, about half undocumented. I'm interested to see if Bukele will push for concessions for his citizens in US with DHS enforcement, or is the deal exchange here just purely economic and security investments.
BREAKING: U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio says El Salvador's president has offered to accept deportees from the U.S. of any nationality as well as violent American criminals now imprisoned in the United States.

@David_J_Bier @BillMelugin_ odd. you didn't show the part of the exact Pew survey (August 2024) that found 56% of all voters favor mass deportation.

@RnaudBertrand It looks messy but it is probably better than maintaining the fiction of American primacy until it eventually collapses under its own weight. Well said.

@DanielEChangC It's all border related (human and drug smuggling). He's targeting three major countries who he believes fail to stem the issue. It shows US territorial sovereignty is a primary issue, and the others are secondary, etc.

Colombia’s president is now urging 200,000+ undocumented Colombians in the U.S. to return home—just two years after demanding the Biden administration grant them work permits. The Trump effect is very real.

The particularly graphic nature of the crimes committed by Venezuelan migrants reflects the horrific destruction of millions of Venezuelans' psyche and value system due to their entire country's society literally collapsing. I continue to be shocked by how the Ivy-league, bookworm staff of the Biden administration failed to foresee the massive public safety issues of allowing so many people to enter the US from such places.

Honduras President Xiomara Castro tried to unite Latin America against Trump’s mass deportation plan. Her effort just failed. Other countries declined to attend her emergency meeting. The US-Colombia standoff showed Latin America that resisting Trump’s agenda comes at a steep cost.
Cancelo la reuniĂłn del 30 de enero de 2025, debido a la falta de consenso. Adjunto el comunicado oficial en mi calidad de Presidenta pro tempore de la CELAC.

Incredible. Colombian President Gustavo Petro’s failed standoff over U.S. deportation flights just collapsed his left-wing coalition after the moderate Liberal Party pulled out. His mishandling has likely invigorated the search for a moderate candidate for the country's 2026 presidential election.
🚨🇨🇴 | URGENTE: Se quiebra la coalición de gobierno en Colombia. El Partido Liberal anuncia que se retira del gobierno de Gustavo Petro. Nadie quiere quedar pegado al muy impopular mandatario colombiano.

@upholdreality Honduras has the most to lose from President Trump's enforcement plan. Hondurans are the largest foreign national group eligible for expedited deportation (264,000 individuals). and US remittances make up about 16% of the country's GDP.

President Gustavo Petro gave the same rationale in '22 when he told the US to give his citizens work permits and legalize them ("we did it, so you have to do it too"). It's an unconvincing argument. Bad left-wing policies led to mass migration from Venezuela, and the same can be said about the mass migration from Colombia to US in '22. Migration helps these leaders continue their bad social/economic policies. -
