🇮🇹 Io di virus ne so poco o niente. Ma di sistemi dinamici complessi, probabilità, gestione del rischio ed effetti non lineari magari ne capisco qualcosa in più. Il 27 Gennaio ho inviato al #Parlamento una petizione per chiedere la quarantena di 21 giorni. 1/4

It used not to be so. I cannot remember the exact year, probably in the 80s, there was a huge public conversation going on because the prices in restaurants had skyrocketed. Before that the wine in bottle was sold at similar prices than n supermarkets, both a bit more expensive than the wineries.

This was absolutely standard when I grew up. Generally reserved for family and friends, but I had a great-aunties who would feed pretty much anyone who asked kindly. Anyway, everyone ate at the exact same times - bar the priests who ate dinner earlier - so if you visited people at 1pm or at 8pm you would be offered lunch or dinner. As a general rule, even if they were not family or fired, if some acquaintance visited you at those times once per year, even with all their family, you would offer them a meal, no questions raised.

@ItHowandwas @Noahpinion Le Chat is better at image generation. That said, my view is that this is because OpenAi has dumbed down their image generation models more than Mistral.

+1 Carrapipi is the name Sicilians would use in that expressions. Its etymology is likely from the Arabic قَرْيَة حَبِيبِي (Qaryat Ḥabībī), possibly “the village of my beloved” or “the beloved village.” Sicilians now use Carrapipi to refer to an extremely remote, almost mythical place. Italian authorities have changed its name, so most Sicilians don’t even know it’s an actual town

@Veraignorante @latinedisce @L4xord In Sicilian: Beddhu sī tu sī beddhu tu Tu beddhu sī Tu sī beedhu Beddhu tu sī [Sī tu beddhu] Have slightly different usages. The first 5 are certainly valid, the 6th I am not sure.

I do have it 🥹 Some of my forefathers – from my maternal side – were “Nigerians” sold as a slaves in Karouan or Fez. Probably more than 40 generations ago, possibly 50, but serendipitously some of their genes have trickled down to me – and everyone else in my maternal grandpa’s home city – and modern genetic ancestral tests catch it (0.5 to 1.5% for me, 1% to 2.8% for my mum). Will I get shared ownership too? 😇
JOIN DNA DESCENDANTS DATABASE If you have Nigerian DNA from an ancestor enslaved in the Americas (Brazil, Caribbean, USA etc.) via the transatlantic slave trade, then you are a “DNA Descendant.” If you wish to be considered at the ongoing negotiations for shared ownership of the iconic Benin bronzes — our cultural property worth $30 billion — we need a screenshot of your DNA report showing your Nigerian ancestry. Also, include a statement on where in the Americas your ancestor was enslaved. For more details visit:

@Nexistentialism @davidwengrow Yes, of course, and from one of those many people speaking one of those many languages came the linguistic, cultural and genetic – obv partial – forefathers of the Indo-European people.

A key critical piece of advise by my Sicilian ancestors: “u aceddhu pusatu si pigghia” 🏴 you catch the bird while it is landed [preferably while it is peacefully resting]

@davidwengrow We now know that single, primordial, originary point is a fact. We may not yet have the exact coordinates of that magical point, but it did exist.
