Recently a lawyer friend asked for a format of a prenup.
I asked him why does he want it when its not valid in India!!
He said his client is a filthy rich person who wants to execute one to only understand the intention of his wife!
Based on the doc he will take future action!
Why is it that
@indiankanoon
has a better search engine despite being completely free and at times the judgments that we find here are not available on the mainstream legal journals??
That's me today at CAT
Read the files 10 times, prepared the matter, read the judgments, marked the relevant portions, in fact even stapled atleast 50 judgements myself, only for the court to discharge the board for some miscreant causing a havoc in the court

How can they use the name INDIA as a political alliance?
What on earth are their legal advisers doing?
It is completely violative of the THE EMBLEMS AND NAMES (PREVENTION OF IMPROPER USE) ACT, 1950
The schedule completely prohibits use of any such name.

Just met a friend advocate from Bombay who was shocked to know that freshers are paid on an average 20-30k in Delhi in litigation.
He was shocked because he was not paid a single penny for the first two years!!
DO NOT become a Lawyer if:
1) You are not ready to READ and READ and READ
2) You are not ready to put in your 8 days of the week to work.
Yours truly,
A sleepy and tired lawyer.
I feel that Microsoft Office should be taught in law school.
Our entire profession revolves around using Word. Unfortunately, most of us don't even know the most basic features of word.
I have seen numerous drafts where the numbering of points is manually done.
So frustrating!!
Can someone please tell me how do these Seniors Advocates appear in dozens of matters daily, without forgetting a single thing about the matter.
They switching roles so fast acc to case is just so cool
I mean, I even keep forgetting my item number and keep rechecking

Hello friends,Im elated to share that after a stint of almost 4.5 years at Karanjawala & Co.,I have started my own Independent Counsel Practice in the Supreme Court of India.
It has been a truly enriching journey with Karanjawala & Co., which I will cherish for life.

Don't choose litigation (especially the High profile and voluminous matters) if you can't handle the pressure
Litigation is taxing!
Before you get into it, understand it
Judges work much more than lawyers. They're paid lesser than what a fresher is paid in tier 1
They don't crib
This man is foolish af.
He shouldn't have abused when he himself is recording.
Courts will take it against him.
She can claim that he has always been abusive. If he's like this in public, what will happen at home.
Howsoever good proof he may have, he reduced it's potency
Wonder when would prenups come into existence in India.
In law school it was taught that law changes with the change in the society.
The parliament must understand that the society has changed. A huge paradigm shift. When will the law change??
Foreign law firms allowed in India.
Good for youngsters, bad for experienced practitioners.
Youngsters will be paid much more.
Work will be snatched from experienced lawyers / law firms.
Senior Advocates who have more than 10 matters on any day have almost 8-10 juniors to assist them.
They also have briefing counsels to brief them.
But judges who have 60 matters a day have only 3 Law clerks to assist them 😅
Unfortunately, most of the law students in max no. of law schools dont have access to or even ever have the opportunity to see SCCOnline, Manupatra and other such tools of legal research!
When the law students aren't taught how to research in school, it will be a huge prob
Go to any library in the Supreme Court, if they have a Wi-fi in the library, it is shared with the lawyers.
Go to library in the DHCBA, they dont share any wifi access with lawyers (except for 1-2 places)!
Huge difference in funds and resources of the two bars. DHCBA is rich af
I think in the legal industry, everyone apart from lawyers earn a handsome amount.
There is no respect for young lawyers in the profession.
They are not adequately paid as per their education!
Clerks, stenos, typists, stenos earn much much more than young lawyers!!
#SedLyf
Lawyers be like paying you 15k a month and expect commitment of 3-4 years in their chamber.
They further exclaim that they want to make this a law firm and want you to be a partner in it!

In Supreme Court, if you do any E-filing, the registry has 3 printers via which they take printouts and check the file for defects
What's the purpose of E-filing if ultimately printouts have to be taken?
Can't the registry be trained?
If they can't adapt to tech, Transfer them!
While in Law School we were taught English and French as language subjects, I honestly think that Hindi must also be a part of the law course.
All documents FIRs evidences etc etc are usually in Hindi.
P.S. Replace Hindi with whatever local language is there as per the location.
In litigation, we have an exam on a daily basis, that too in front of the entire court.
Slept at 12am
Woke up at 4.30am
Slept again at 4.40am
Woke up at 7.50am

,the first and foremost thing that I would advise you when you join the profession is to learn the clerical work
Law you've already learnt. But learn how the registry works, what to do and what not
Eventually when you go independent, this will be handy
Trust me when I say this.
To survive and succeed in law in the longer run, you need a fire in the belly!
It'll test you and your patience everyday, but you'll sail through my friend!
As a lawyer, while drafting if you are still manually typing whatever you want to copy paste from any PDF file or from a hardcopy, my friend, you are not up to date.
Open Google Lens, it is a marvellous application.
No errors like OCR. 100% accurate + FREE!!

One of the reasons why some lawyers make it big is because of their efficient clerks.
This is one reason why law firms are thriving and have big clients.
A lawyer's life is so hectic and cumbersome that whomsoever I am talking to in the past 2-3 days have just been saying that they are sitting at home in their balcony with a cup of coffee / tea in their hand after god knows how many days!!
VERY STRESSFUL!!!!
Young lawyers in litigation can only survive on one thing i.e. zeal to work.
Otherwise in the initial few years they usually don't have-
Money
Time
Sleep
Energy
Resources
Contacts
Jobs
Internships
Work experience
Good office
Etc
I feel that the Law Colleges must teach the law students regarding the basics of drafting, formatting, etc for courts.
They should have regular workshops wherein their own alumni who are doing good should be called back and asked to take small workshops on the same.
While I don't mind helping out ppl in assisting to get internships and jobs, what frustrates me at times is someone who secures an internship at a BIG place and does not join w no courtesy to msg
This puts me in an embarrassing spot because I've taken a favour for someone else
In litigation as a profession, there's an exam everyday. In fact multiple exams in one day!
The only difference is that if you fail, you'll be failing before 100s of people watching you fail in the court and get embarrassed!
Preparation level is high af.
If at all you ever feel that you're still a fresher in law and just have 3-4 years of experience, always keep in mind that an IAS officer with 3-4 years of exp is a DM and IPS is an SP.
They are also equally young and inexperienced as you may be.
You are what you think you are!!
Kuch nahi bro, bas showoff karna hai!
The obsession of Police Officers and their wards in Delhi NCR to keep their uniform-hat or a Delhi Police / UP Police file on the dashboard!!
What is sad in today’s date is that almost every office has a married man / woman who is openly cheating on his/her spouse with a colleague and everyone is chill about it…
They’re doing whatever they can in their space and go back to their house as the best husband/wife.
This litigation profession is amazing.
You keep learning everyday.
Just got to know that in Bombay HC, they don't adjourn the matters, but "stand over" the matters to a particular date.
Just like in N. India its called Passover and in Bom, its Kept back!

Being a lawyer, never ever shy away from investing in good gadgets such as laptops / ipad / tablet / extra screen / good table and chair and decent phone.
In our profession (business), this is our major capital investment in the initial few years.

While a lot of students are writing that they're throwing away their former criminal manuals, etc, please note that this new act will be prospective in operation.
Whatever criminal cases are pending will be run by the prev laws only.
Therefore, keep increasing your knowledge
The High Court episode was bad and uncalled for.
But it’s high time that seniors in the HC leave their reserved seats.
Literally their tables are reserved. This is when all of them have chambers to eat in and other lawyers just keep standing looking at vacant reserved tables.
I recently sent a legal notice on behalf the promoter / owner of a listed company having a valuation of approximately 45-50k crore!

I like how the entire social media is criticizing Justice DYC for his remark on using soft copies to argue in courts.
People can spend 1000s on photocopying one brief, but can't spend 15-20k once in 3-4 years to buy a device.
Litigation takes you places around the Country.
So glad to come to the Hon’ble Karnataka High Court for the first time.
The building and court rooms are quite majestic.
Overall it seems as if it's all peace and serene here. No hustle bustle like the courts in Delhi.
I think almost all law students who have just entered the legal prof have committed this mistake
We try writing in typical legal English hvin words such as therefrom inasmuchas therein inter alia whatsoever etc etc
However while doing so, we forget that it doesn't even make sense
The uniform amazes and inspires me like anything!
Saw a 6 ft 2 inch Smart Young and vibrant colonel rank officer today in the Court, and WHAT A PERSONALITY!!
I was today years old to learn that even in the Supreme Court of India evidence is recorded like it's done in the Trial Courts!

The Rajasthan HC functions from 8 AM in the Morning to 1PM in the afternoon
Do you think the other courts must also adopt this model?
A lot of time gets saved due to no traffic.
Plus, after 1,you practically have the entire day to yourself
Everyone will become morning persons!!

I'm so elated to know that the Hon’ble President of India has extended the powers under Section 156(3) Cr.P.C. and Article 142 of the Constitution of India so that the NCDRC can direct Police to investigate a matter and do complete justice.
I'm amazed by this order!!
Drafting pleadings under the Original Jurisdiction takes humungous efforts than drafting in the Appeals / Petitions Appellate stages.
One has to be very very precise, accurate and cautious while drafting the Petitioner / suit / complaint / plaint for the first time.
Just checked on the SC website.
Hon'ble Mr. Justice DY Chandrachud has till date heard almost 21000 matters!!
I am sure that the number is definitely higher than this too!!
The same is with all other judges of the Supreme Court!
The hard work put in by them is immense!!
A senior once told me when making a Bail Application the FIR details, sections etc must always be present in the first few paras.
Today the Hon’ble SC directed HCs to do the same.
Moral of the story: Always listen to your seniors and they speak from exp.
Was priveleged to attend the workshop on Military Law Organized by the Litigation Section of JAG's Department (Army).
We were guided by the Lt. Gen and Maj Gen rank officers
It would immensely help us in defending the Army in a much better manner before the Supreme Court
@adgpi
TBH, in my view, because of lack of attention and supervision over the District Courts, I somehow have come across some very very rude judges.
I mean appearing before the Supreme Court, we are referred to as Sir and Ma'am by the Hon’ble Judges.
But here things are diff.
Some people come to the SC specially to go to the lawn and shoot reels to post on Instagram.
Why??!!
Never seen them in court but seen their reels on Instagram where they're in Court (lawn)
Despite the Bar Associations have given the liberty to lawyers to not to wear black coats in the summer season, 99.99% lawyers are wearing black coats.
Maybe because they like wearing their uniform or because it's not that hot.
Today was in a Family Court.
On grant of mutual divorce (Second motion) some officer of the court who was getting the signatures done, after signatures congratulated the parties - (ex) husband and wife.
I found it a little wierd
Do you think one should congratulate on divorce?
I’m at the Railway Station to pick up a few relatives.
As per the case status, the train was on time and arrived at 6.59 AM
It’s 7.44 and the train hasn’t arrived till now.
As per the TVs on the platform, the train has arrived
Some big ticket upgrade going on in Supreme Court. Lawns being beautified; courtrooms being refurbished with new furniture & fixtures, high end IT infrastructure and massive high definition LED screens.
We will see a slightly different Supreme Court in ten days from now.

Why don't law firms and law offices have sleeping pods in their offices?
This is the least comfort that you can give to your juniors. Atleast they can sleep in the pods

Worst thing that lawyers do is fight on social media over ideologues and spoil their relations and block.
Baba you have to meet each other in court for the next 40 years of your life. Why to fight over something silly??
MEET UP ALERT
Let’s meet tomorrow at Central Park-Connaught Place.
Time 4 PM
Date 14.02.2024
Things to carry - Danda and sport shoes (for running).
Training will be provided on the spot. Refreshments will be given.
Maybe I am not a regular advocate appearing before the Delhi High Court, but I honestly feel that the HC Registry is quite difficult for filing fresh applications / matters.
They come out with a new defect every damn day, which was not there the prev day.
I've seen law students who are extremely courteous and thankful for facilitating an internship to a nice law office.
Similarly I've seen a small % of people who are complete thankless pricks who consider it their right to demand an internship from some1 bc they're entitled!
Two of the three senior most Delhi HC judges transferred and appointed as Chief Justices elsewhere.
Now 300+ applications of Senior Designations will be looked into by a committee of two new judges (No 4 and 5 before this resolution).
Interesting development.
Legal literacy is seriously required.
This must be a subject in the schools.
At times it becomes quite difficult to explain to people being misleaded by their local lawyers that what is happening, will have huge repercussions on you from the very next day
No one (lawyers / law students) has read the Rahul Gandhi conviction judgment since it's in Gujarati.
No one made the efforts to translate it.
But everyone has given their opinion - Failure of Indian Judiciary.
Aise kaise vakeel banoge bhai?
Forgive me for saying this, but most of the Tribunals don’t function as Courts.
Recently in one Tribunal while I was wanting to argue and show certain judgments, the administrative member gave me gyan about how the Gita was written and about Mahabharat and there’s always scope
I'm sitting in the auditorium waiting for the swearing in ceremony to commence.
Some senior lawyer has till now in the past 20 minutes made around 7-8 whatsapp video calls showing everyone the auditorium and informing abt the swearing in ceremony of KVV sir.
Arguing a matter in the Supreme Court at the admission stage is like writing a tweet on twitter
You have limited characters
You've to be to the point and hit the bulls eye!
Its a different skill altogether which you only learn with experience!
I keep observing Seniors to learn
I am ashamed to admit before everyone that even as an Advocate, I have never ever read the agreement before installing any application or software or visiting a website and I have always pressed the I agree button!!
😂
I'm reading an order of the Court, which has made me doubt my comprehension of English Language.
I hope the Appellate Court also feels the same.
Not able to understand a single word of the English written.
Keeping in mind the humongous amount of matrimonial litigation, I think the law schools must have a special subject wherein practical aspects of the matrimonial litigation is taught.
Maybe tactics to defend both men and women should be taught with appropriate case studies
Day before yesterday I was appearing before a Mahila Court (DV ACT).
Was appalled to see that a 70 odd yo person had come on a wheelchair who was on oxygen support to seek bail. His portable concentrator had also stopped working
Sorry state of affairs of marriage in India.
When I was interning with Mr. Soli Sorabjee, I was fortunate enough that there were no interns for 3 weeks and trust me it was fun since I roamed around with sir in his car!
Make the most out of the situation when you get the opportunity and situation.
@RaunaqBali
Use the opportunity.
Talk to lawyers / associates at the office.
Make a connect with them.
Its much better than talking to co interns who are sailing in the same boat.
What utter nonsense!!
Just to earn some quick money just mislead the law students that corporate lawyers earn more money and have much BETTER PRESTIGE!!
Litigation may not pay you initially, but within 5-10 years, you’ll surpass what a corporate lawyer can even think of earning
The biggest bargaining tactic used by a client for reducing the profession fee is:
"I have 2-3 more matters in the pipeline which I will give only to you!"
It is very important to join a good law office during your initial few years. Joining a good office would entail you to learn the intricate skills which one may not really learn otherwise, or it may be extremely difficult to do so...
When a Supreme Court judge retires, judges & lawyers aren't in their official robes and come to a coat and tie / formal suit.
However when a Del HC judge retires, both judges and lawyers are in their official robes and retain the advocates coat and band.
