Dr. Gertz, whether you like him or not, He earned the support ( both electoral and popular vote) of the people he represents. fair and square. Now compare that to the organization @ABIMcert you are a part of. I am not questioning your honesty and integrity. However, who voted for ABIM to be the arbitrer of which physicians should be allowed to practice? Did we vote for any of your officers? Who do you represent?

Mantle cell NHL story is complicated, but recent analysis by @timfenske shows auto might be avoided by those achieving deep remission with conventional Rx (not CAR T, as article suggests): (side note: some v high risk mantle -> consider allo)

Anyone who believes in the existence of a multiple myeloma patient too frail/old for auto transplant but appropriate candidate for car T cell therapy has not spent any meaningful time on either auto or inpatient CAR T service.

great thread !! 2 years ago, I had started to believe that autoSCT for Myeloma should be phased out. However, The more short term and long term toxicity of CAR-T cell therapy I get to see everyday, I have started to believe that almost every patient deserves a chance for an autoSCT before CAR-T.
I hope #MMSM will indulge this thread on autologous SCT for myeloma: In this letter (, I highlight that a recent RCT of ASCT, EMN02, only demonstrated overall survival benefit to ASCT on long-term follow-up, after publication of the primary analysis. 1/9

Merry Christmas !! I have always enjoyed rounding on Christmas Day. The hospital corridors have fewer people but no shortage of holiday spirit. Grateful to all who were working in the hospital this holiday and to the patients who allow us to serve them. @KUHospitalNews @KUcancercenter

Yesterday on rounds on Allo inpatient service : Young patient eagerly awaiting neutrophil recovery so that she could get out of the hospital before Christmas . She asks if she could do anything to expedite neutrophil recovery and I jokingly tell her that she could chant neutrophil 500 times or write neutrophil 500 times on the wall . Today inside her room : 😜 I love the grace and humor of our patients even in such difficult situations .
