@_DEUSMACHINA @ObtainerOf i basically agree. i regret wording my original tweet that way, if I knew it would blew up i'd have used more precise phrasing

@aramando @MaxGuillotine @ObtainerOf true, it doesn't equal addiction, but it increases the likelihood that someone consuming the given substance all the time does it out of dependence rather than preference

@aramando @Boris72947177 @ObtainerOf hm, i don't think there is hard disagreement here. it's possible that someone just drinks everyday but they can stop easily if they decide to. i just don't think thats the majority of cases

@aramando @MaxGuillotine @ObtainerOf different things have different addictive potential. eg. fentanyl is more addictive than alcohol and alcohol is more addictive than.. gummy bears?

@aramando @Boris72947177 @ObtainerOf if i see someone consistently drink every day, i assume that's because they have a hard time resisting it. maybe there are exceptions but i think it's true in the majority of cases

@TheEagl00739824 @robnikada @ObtainerOf i've lived here my whole life. my point was, for sure, people often drink orders of magnitude more than 2 and 8 or whatever, but that's already addiction if you do it every day

@MaxGuillotine @ObtainerOf that's a sample size of 1. for a different substance with different addiction potential. and also, people have different physiologies, with different likelihoods to develop dependences

@IdiditagainR4D @burntheboats997 @BrickaBarry @ObtainerOf it's true that there are some racial differences in alcohol metabolism, but yeah, i also highly doubt the claim you're responding to

@_DEUSMACHINA @ObtainerOf btw i'm not against alcohol. i'm "against" masking problems with addictive behavior. i go out to drink once ebery two weeks or so

@lolowhat @Bazoonga31 @ObtainerOf it's not meant to demonize people at all! saying "you are doing a harmful thing" is not necessarily demonizing, especially if most of the harm is to the person themself. the intention is just to point out that their behavior is not ideal on the long term

@_DEUSMACHINA @ObtainerOf look, we can argue what arbitrary threshold we define as "alcoholism" but that leads nowhere. i do think though that drinking every day isnt good for you and you'd be better off quitting. you are free to drink as much as you want though, i didn't intend to, like, police this

@SeymourV71287 @ObtainerOf in my book that's ok because you are not dependent if you're going 7 days without the stuff. in fact i also drink like once every two weeks or so, on average. i was just saying that *every day* seems concerning to me
