It’s great to see low-latency messaging libraries finally target public clouds. We also have a low-latency DPDK messaging library for cloud VMs, open-sourced at It gets 750k RPCs/s with 61us p99.9 latency on Azure (no VM placement tuning), with one core.

Tomorrow at 11 am at SIGCOMM, Nikita Lazarev will present some of our research on cloudifying 5G radio access networks from our team at Azure for Operators. Link: This paper has it all: wireless signal processing ideas meets programmable networks (Tao Ji, @daehyeok_kim ) meets clever low-latency systems (@marinosi )! The context is the ongoing softwarization of the 5G RAN ("vRAN"), which is moving cellular signal processing and scheduling from special hardware to commodity servers. We built a system that provides the fault tolerance and live migration capabilities needed for hosting such a critical infrastructure on the cloud, targeting the realtime PHY layer. For me the greatest thing in this project was working with Nikita (@Nikita29868530), whose abilities and energy know no bounds.
