So much of sport psychology and mental game advice I see in the sport of golf seems so focused on the goal of reducing uncomfortable feelings. - Reduce expectations so you don’t feel bad when they are not realized. - Don’t have a goal of making a putt; you could miss it and feel disappointed. - Don’t care about the outcome; you could get too nervous. - Accept the result before the shot so you won’t be angry or frustrated. - Turn the game into a math algorithm so you don’t have to exert effort making a decision. And on and on… I just don’t think this is the approach that leads to greatness, or anyone’s greatest.
