The town of Whittier, Alaska, is known for having nearly the entire population living in a single apartment building.
The building is called Begich Towers, a 14-story apartment complex that houses about 90% of the town's residents (total: 272). This has earned Whittier the

Tell him "absolutely!" and then give him directions to "wardrobe" but don't tell him it's really the address of a sewage treatment plant.

Exactly. As I've said from the beginning, these appointments are not "poor choices." They are suicide bombers. They were chosen explicitly to destroy their departments.
When, head of Universal Studios, Sid Sheinberg read the script for BACK TO THE FUTURE (1985) he felt some changes were needed. He sent this, now famous, memo to executive producer Steven Spielberg.

I heard it as a terrifying acceptance that he understood what horrors he saw as “necessary.”

Something's going on out there.

"Life" is specifically listed as an inalienable right in the Dec of Ind, whereas the "right to go to the mall during a pandemic and thereby endanger hundreds of innocent strangers just to you can get a spray tan"....

In 2007, I was named a Nicholl Finalist a few weeks before the strike started. I was flown to LA by the Academy to experience... silence. No meetings. No calls. No water bottle tour. I walked a picket line at Paramount, and a huge writer threw us a great party.
Then I came home.

Plain old fashioned gerrymandering. TX is awful about that, but has so far managed to fend off multiple attempts to address it. This district is pretty clearly carved to create a republican stronghold.
All this talk of streaming algorithms reminds me of this hilarious scene from HBO’s Barry, in which TV showrunners are told why their show is being cancelled.
So be careful before you make very many grand pronouncements about suicide and depression. Unless you’ve actually been there and lived through it, you don’t know. You just don’t.
And I f you’re very very lucky, you never will. Trust me.
10-year old Connor Esterson developed a 6-page treatment for a film which was so loved that writers Nick Vallelonga & George Gallo are now working with him to develop the script to pitch to studios.
The film follows a boy who befriends an mobster living next door, described by
Apologies in advance for a long humor-free thread:
When I was 17, I came within a devil’s breath of taking the final leap (literally) in a suicide attempt. I was in a dark lonely moment, and I just wanted that pain and terror to end— more than anything I could think or describe.

One third of their intake went to CC fees?
Does Jordan own a CC processing service? This seem like Trumpian levels of stupid/fishy expenses....
I am a screenwriter. And I stand proudly with the

The strike will suck, but it will end. Eventually.
And when it does, come out writing.

PROMISE?
DO YOU NEED SOME BOXES? HELP LOADING THE MOVING VAN?
BTW— good luck finding any civilized country on Earth where you’ll be welcome and happy.

Exactly. There's a huge difference between philosophically "unagreeable" and "downright "unqualified." Competence should be something everyone demands of jurists.

"Raising the debt limit" has nothing to do with funding future programs. This is about covering the insane debt rolled up by Trump's corruption and largesse. The GOP is basically refusing to pay the insane bar tab they racked up.
Senate Republicans didn't *block* a bill.
They voted *IN FAVOR* of the US defaulting on the national debt - which will tank the economy, cost us 6+ million jobs and lead to trillions in lost wealth for everyday Americans.
The GOP hates America.

This seems the most wonderful way to be memorialized : with your friends and loved ones laughing and singing and dancing because of some beauty you managed in your time on Earth.
Bravo.

Tracked down a shot of the actual camera plane which captured the previous image. Note the unusual reversed-color insignia (to denote "amphibious reconnaissance unit"). Photographer shown is the legendary Simon "Deathgrip" McGee.

Reminder to all

who failed to advance on anything lately:
Make a list of your four or five all time favorite produced writers and see how many of them were contest winners.
I bet that number is very close to zero.

Been arguing for this for years. Training, testing, licensing, registration, insurance, tracking sales/ownership, special licenses for bigger/more dangerous... all works fine for cars. GUNS TOO.

Not advancing in a contest makes approximately zero difference to your writing or your career. Contests *can* be a useful tool, but they are not the goal.

Customer whistled at me and pointed “here”.
I looked at him confused and didn’t move— just stayed busy with my mundane task. Eventually he came over. “You ignoring me?”
“No, sir. I assumed your dog got loose. That’s not how we speak to fellow humans.”
He was nice after that.
It was surreal and in a lot of ways totally demoralizing and heartbreaking. And if it had happened to any normal person, it might have broken their spirit.
Even casual readers understand that I am NOT a normal person, and all it did was double my already tenacious resolve.
I never again had any similar episode, but neither have I ever forgotten how that moment felt: a total loss of rational perspective, replaced by an almost drunken logic where the clearly worst idea seems the clearly best idea. I just wanted the fear to be gone.
Now here we are in 2023 and again a strike becomes absolutely essential and necessary to safeguard any sort of future for the folks who sit at keyboards and transmute blank pages and empty displays into the epics and tiny dramas and laugh festivals enjoyed on screens worldwide.
It’s been a really good week. Unnaturally good. Suspiciously good.
And I will take it.
