not kissin up to biden/kamala by any means but white leftists before you tell black and brown folk celebrating today that “this isnt over, theres work to be done”— realize that message is for YOU especially. black and brown ppl have done a lot of work to undo shit YALL did.
its funny that black ppl cant remind yall to leave rest in power to black folk without being called bigots, while also being told "if i mess up PLEASE tell me! listening and learning ♡ "
ah yes october 1st!
please make sure you dont post screamers/jumpscares and dont send them to people without consent! for people with anxiety disorders halloween/october can be a nightmare so like, dont do it!
🎀🌈HOW TO COMBAT RAINBOW CAPITALISM🌈🎀
So.
You like rainbow stuff because youre in the lgbt community and like representing yourself on clothing, but you HATE exploitative means. How can you satisfy your fashion needs while reducing cruelty and capitalist bs?
hey guys! i notice a lot of nonbinary nonblack people don’t like the term “enby” and I understand that! but please don’t demonize it as it was coined by black folk to differentiate between nb for nonblack and another thing for nonbinary.
it's lesbian visibility week WOO!!!!
i love being a genderfluid black butch, protecting My femme and my community while moving between different gender presentations means the world to me.
(they/he/fae)
@fatfabfeminist
the doxxing was OTT but much of the criticism wasnt due to being deemed as cringe- it was berry's known ea baiting and tokenism of her japanese bf among other fetishization.
“cops belong in pride to protect!!”
Columbus Community Pride is a festival that is functioning without cops. They’re hiring security AND they’re being conscious of the type they hire. Your move.
what gets me is that artists KNOW how black ppls skin tones are. even if they dont know undertones, you use reference photos. otherwise how do you know what your subject looks like?
if you draw digitally, you have color picker. so theres no excuses. not “style”, it’s refusal
1. Remember that you’re trying to REDUCE cruelty. It’s impossible to completely be cruelty free without a) exploiting another party b) going on ventures that aren’t accessible. Nobody’s perfect! If your wardrobe isn’t decked out in ~all~ cruelty free, fair trade, do ur best!
@iconickbeauty
white ppl make it their personality trait to be sexual in public spaces, all while forgetting that they desexualize and hypersexualize black people for the same things they rally for Liberation and Sex Posi ™ for themselves
5. BUY BLACK!
...black BUSINESSES that is. Antiblackness is global and now’s a great time to support. Imo, we should be supported year round, but if you want this time to be a start—it’s a great way to get familiar with the brand!
7. DO NOT GO TO PRIDE PARADES THAT SUPPORT COPS.
Pride parades were started with Stonewall. Police have always made us feel unsafe one way or another. A lot of Prides are asking for a fee when it’s been started by low income members of the LGBT community.
the concept that fatherless children are bound to a path of failure is so toxic. it’s not only disrespectful to those who raised us, but also downplays any shortcomings and personal issues we have to “well if your FATHER were in your life”.
4. Give small businesses your big bucks!
Etsy is a GREAT place to start. They are usually handmade and they /are/ more expensive. If you can, buy! But PLEASE make sure you aren’t sacrificing rent, food/grocery, bill money for an enby pin! And, etsy folx usually make custom stuff!
no diet is cruelty free. it’s foolish to think a plant based diet wasn’t built on the backs of migrant workers and dying rainforests, and its foolish to think that a carnal diet wasn’t built on traumatized slaughterhouse workers, underpaid factory works and deforestation
6. Thrift flip!
Try and avoid salvation army and goodwill if you can, as they have shown that they do not support the LGBT community and they have a habit of mistreating workers. BUT if that’s all you can do (due to lack of accessibility etc) thats fine!
2. Look at the company’s intentions. Where are the proceeds going? Do their morals line up? Why is the rainbows ONLY appearing at most during June? How is the clothing made, and is this something you want to support financially?
3. Diversitize AND monetize!
Just because the owner is in the LGBT community doesn’t mean they’re absolved from exuding oppression. There’s CEOs in the LGBT community that exploit prisoners, are pro cop, are transmisic etc. Don’t just buy because it’s gay ™
if it doesnt fit FOR YOU and is infantilizing FOR YOU thats one thing. but the term itself is not inherently infantilizing or bad. i see this pattern with aave or other terms that are coined by black folk.
creation - appropriation - overuse - misinformation/demonization
kpop takes a lotta (uncredited) inspo from blk culture, and now that theres more blk ppl in kpop im seeing this lukewarm stale take popping up more and more and painting it as a harmless opinion 🤭
it’s not from uwu culture it’s just the phonetic version of nb. much like how poly and polya/am exist to make cultural distinction. if you’d like to make your own abbreviation/alternative for nonbinary more power to you!
marginalized people spend most of our existance “educating” only to be met with dismissal, ridicule, and ignorance. so when people tell us to calm down and “just talk to them” it’s a slap in the face.
feminism and knowledge of rape culture isnt punishing you or telling you not to approach women. youre uncomfortable bc the predatory ass tactics you use are not tolerated and now you have to ACTUALLY make an effort
one last thing; white people, please use your privilege and instead of announcing your social media break, take this time to educate yourself on how to help those who will be impacted today. actively be there for us.
@ColtonPappas
@adweein
its not your place as a nonblack person to make these jokes. also yikes @ the “twitter drama” comment when really its a matter of respecting black ppl.
6a. If you can, paint or embroider to customize! If you are unable, there’s iron on printables. Or, ask a friend! Clothes can be a canvas, and a unique piece will be rad at a pride festival!
nonblack poc please know that just bc n!gger is used in a slur against you doesnt mean its yours to reclaim. words like sand n!gger exist to attach you to blackness by proxy. blackness is the bottom of the white supremacist ladder. for that reason it shouldnt be something you use
8. Have your own festival or get together if there’s no other pride events in your area! Stonewall started as an uprising and Pride is by nature unconventional.
Make sure you also look at permits and such based on your city!
"theres a time and a place" yea and it unfortunately keeps happening when a nonblack person is killed/self immulates etc. i appreciate the work they do and would never minimize it but it always sucks knowing that black ppl cant ask for something without being harassed.
it is very much in poor taste for you to tell US the work isnt fully done when our work has gone unnoticed time and time again AND we’ve been used as a scapegoat.
8a. Make sure that your DIY Pride Festival/Get Together is accessible to everyone! That means those who are disabled, activities that are free, somewhere that’s friendly for youth & parents etc!
10a. Please make sure you know when to tap out. If someone is being antagonizing, then don’t bother. And, please remember that not EVERYBODY knows about rainbow capitalism, and most of the times it’s just out of not knowing. Know the difference between not knowing and ignorance.
10. Educate the willing masses! Tell your friends the history of pride and why cops and capitalism don’t belong. It’s a slap in the face to the LIVING stonewall vets. In education, make sure your language and info is ACCESSIBLE. It should be a willing, open environment.
also nonblack people—please in the release of the Surviving R. Kelly docuseries, please be aware of the conversations you have. Sexual assault is viewed differently across races, believe it or not, and while it’s essentially the same crime...
8b. if you want an 18+ oriented pride get together, make sure it’s in a place where ALL parties (including spectators) give consent! Be sure you ID people as well. Many complain about pride being ~nastily oversexualized~ and being sexual isnt inherently bad!
hot fucking take but homeless people deserve to have a roof over their head whether they fit the “stereotype” or not. drug addiction is a disease and its hard to kick without having access to rehabilitative services, having “severe” MIs gets expensive...
9. PLEASE in your endeavors you are not putting yourself and/or others in physical or emotional harm. A trek to a thrift store 10 miles away in the hot sun is NOT worth heat stroke! Don’t feel bad if you can’t hit all of these points due to lack of accessibility.
AND the work that we’ve done is for our betterment- not to teach white people a lesson or to save white people. we are not your saviors. a lot of us don’t have the choice to do activism or not. it’s really do or die.
in honor of world aids day:
-you dont say someone is “dirty” or “clean”. someone is either hiv positive or negative
-people die due to aids related illness or complications due to aids. aids destroys the immune system and the illnesses one contracts are those that kill
coined by black people is (i believe) free to use by people regardless of race (ex. enby) while aave is something that outside the context of blackness loses cultural ties (ex. white or nb lesbians calling themselves studs, white or nb gnc ppl calling themselves boi)
@fatfabfeminist
and before anyone replies abt kaigai idols- i know what they are. its not just about the way berry talks but other asian ppl in her area came forward abt her being a known asian fetishizer and being a kaigai idols shouldnt be used to dismiss this behavior.
if youre a straight man and are trying to talk about “not all men do this”, but never step in and say “theyre gay dude stop lol”
youre missing the point. if it doesnt apply, keep it moving.
but what can I say, if the shoe fits!
you slouching but having a socially acceptable body isnt body posi please stop taking up space where fat and/or disabled folk are FINALLY being celebrated
It is a very weird feeling knowing that as a black person I was made very aware of my blackness in my place in society when my age was in the single digits, and white people just get to discover that racism is bad when they’re pushing 30.
chihuahuas are generally between 6-9 inches on average, get tossed in purchases, thrown around and messed with because theyre “little and cant do much” yet bc they bite people for ignoring their warning signs and scaring them theyre “devil spawn” and are somehow “worse”
@ColtonPappas
you can call attn to his racism by directly mentioning him and his associates and calling him in, or rting and supporting the black folk already doing this
half of it is unpacked biphobic stereotypes, the other is how often lesbians are often pit against men, with men being seen as the "better option" and lesbians mislabeled as "wanting to be men". its all in all an unfortunate product of heteronormativity and nobody wins.
