Dr. Mustapha Tunde Salawu has been my friend for 36 years. Our paths first crossed in 1989 when we shared a flat as young lecturers at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), School of Agriculture (now Federal College of Agriculture, Akure). Back then, our students would remember him as a soft-spoken Agroclimatology and Animal Science lecturer, while I taught Crop Production, Field Experimentation, and Statistics. While I remained a teacher in Akure, Dr. Salawu received a UK scholarship and proceeded to the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, for his MSc and PhD. He went on to establish himself as a leading Animal Nutrition Consultant globally. In recent years, he has been at the forefront of managing the world’s largest cattle farm, pioneering cattle fattening innovations and livestock well-being for ranches and animal farms across Europe, America, and Asia. Recently, Dr. Salawu transitioned into my field, investing in Nigeria’s cassava sector. Last week, his vision became a reality as he commissioned a multi-million-dollar, state-of-the-art garri and allied products factory at his Iporin farm, near Ilorin in Kwara State, his hometown. I thoroughly enjoyed myself at the commissioning and was inspired by his remarkable journey!

I was deeply humbled by the honor bestowed upon me by my former classmates from 40 years ago at our recent reunion. Last weekend, my classmates from the 1984-1986 set at the prestigious University of Ife, School of Agriculture, Akure (now Federal College of Agriculture Akure), converged at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta for a historic first reunion. It was a surreal experience seeing my old friends, now captains of industry and renowned agricultural experts, return from all over the globe to reconnect. For some, it was the first time we'd seen each other since 1986. The highlight of the event was the 'Lifetime Achievement Award' presented to me, which was a truly humbling moment. I'm grateful to my colleagues for organizing this reunion and for choosing Abeokuta, my base, as the venue. It was a wonderful and memorable occasion. Thank you all for this honor and for the opportunity to reconnect with old friends.
