@Pitch
is nowhere near being dead.
We generate >4.4m € in ARR, and we have more than 6m € in cash. We're changing course towards becoming profitable asap, with the remaining all-star team of ~40 people.
Yesterday's announcement was painful, but we still
Today, we’ve finally shipped a new text editor for
@Pitch
. ✍️ It enabled us to squash 50 long-standing text editing bugs and remove 4 years of accumulated tech debt. Here’s what it’s built with and how it works. 🧵 (1/9)
@EncestralZ
It would be if we were building our software as a layer on top of PowerPoint, as Arc is a front end for Google’s Chromium browser. But we built it from scratch instead. You could argue that our desktop app is an Electron skin, I’ll give you that ;)
Today is the start of a new era at Pitch. We are rebooting to become a much leaner company, and I will lead the way as the new CEO.
I want to thank
@ChristianReber
for all his hard work getting us this far, and express my deep appreciation to all the amazing Pitchers departing
I'm reminded today that it's already been five years since we decided against corporate politics and legacy software lacking soul and character. Together with my friends, I founded
@Pitch
to find a more creative work environment, a home for software nerds with passion for...
When we founded
@Pitch
in 2018, it was a fresh start for us all, and I had one clear priority: to build a product team that constantly shipped exciting new features and improvements.
Every 👏 single 👏 week.
Here's how and why I set this pace (thread) 👇
We finally launched
@Pitch
publicly yesterday and I'm so excited to see the responses from new and existing users. Keep the positive vibes and constructive feedback coming 🙌
This year is feeling different for
@Pitch
and we're off to a great start. We managed to make a deal with our investors to avoid being crushed by bull market hyper growth expectations, rebooted the company in a leaner setup, spent a lot of time talking to customers and partners,
This feature request was sitting at the top of our Canny board for ages, but had to take a backseat as we searched for a "unicorn feature" to try to grow into our last valuation and hyper-growth expectations.
With the reboot of
@Pitch
in its nimbler form, we completely switched
Did a colleague accidentally delete your pitch deck just before the call? 😱
No need to panic! Recovering recently deleted presentations and templates just got a whole lot easier. 🗑️
One of the more exciting results of
@Pitch
's reboot into a smaller and simpler form is that the role as CEO is a lot less complicated than before. Fewer meetings, fewer documents, less process and much more time to dream, build and try. Haven't coded this much in years.
Our team
@Pitch
has been hard at work re-imagining the experience when presenting your ideas, and this is the first step towards a bigger vision. Really proud of what we've done here, give it a spin!
We want to help you present your ideas with confidence.
Our new player will help your ideas ✨shine✨ and gives your team space for focused review and feedback. (Plus, it’s just really, really, really, ridiculously good looking.)
Taking advantage of paid and open-source solutions allows us to build Pitch faster.

We returned most of the money we raised in the last round in exchange for removing liq pref and getting 80% ownership back to founders and employees.
But yes, 2021 was insane.
A great practice that I've observed among
@Pitch
engineers is pervasive use of FIXMEs to declutter your mind and keep work moving forward. A bit like the "parking lot" concept observed in workshops.
@pesterhazy
wrote about its effectiveness a while back:
Paragraph spacing. Select a text block, open the design panel and change the paragraph spacing under “More text options”. You’d be surprised how long it took us to come to an agreement that relative values are better suited for spacing than absolute. (5/9)
Automatic text styling. Paste text on a slide, and it will automatically take on the color and font style of the slide. Paste it inside an existing text block, like a title, and it will inherit its style. Basic styling like hyperlinks will be maintained in both cases. (6/9)

2022 continues to throw curve balls and the future remains unpredictable for tech startups. Here my co-founder
@christianreber
explains how we proactively navigate this to stay in control of our future at

Tech stocks had a very tough quarter, and investors and founders are feeling ripple effects. Companies like $ZM, $TEAM, $HUBS or $PATH are down >50% vs. 6mo ago.

That’s great, building tools and technology for developers is a noble cause. About browsers from scratch,
@ladybirdbrowser
is doing exactly that, but will probably be a while until they’re on par with the functionality of current browsers. But it’s great with a bit of diversity.
This week we're shipping 6 templates, 1 new feature, 6 improvements, and 3 bug fixes.

Trying out putting every single task I need to do on my calendar. Makes it really obvious when expectations and reality drifts apart. Is there a great tool that combines tasks and calendar, preferably driven by keyboard shortcuts?
The “only paranoid survives” mindset leads to unhealthy stress, outward fixation and ultimately burnout. Look inward, focus on the craft, obsess about your customer, not competitor.

Our team is a lot smaller now, so we've removed a lot of specialisation and process that were obstacles for everyone making the product better every day. We also have a really sharp view on who our target user is, which helps keeps the focus on impactful work.
Features are “dime a dozen”. There is no feature moat in the new world. Develop taste for what is good and conviction of how the world should work, then build the software that supports that worldview. Sell opinionated solutions to problems, not a set of features. Create super

That’s nice, but what would be really cool is if you stop ignoring support emails and help owners of your products to get them to work. All your support channels seem to lead into a black void, and you’re turning vocal champions to vocal enemies. Be better, do better.

My mental model is that this is not just a button that triggers an action, but a toggle condensed into a button. Other forms of the same would be a group of radio buttons, or a drop down where you pick one of the possible states. Following that train of thought, it becomes
