In the middle of a battle over who gets to run AL birth centers & how, a Bham mom delivered the state's first baby born in a birth center. She was attended by licensed midwives who - if the state's new regulations pass - won't get to work there anymore.

Denny is one of my favorite former colleagues. Full of talent, compassionate, deeply sourced, respected. The closure of @reckonnews is sad for many reasons, but I will miss reporting like Denny's. News orgs, y'all need to snap her up before someone else does.
today @reckonnews shut down, marking an end to my two years at the newsroom. as one of the very few trans women of color covering LGBTQ politics at a national level—especially rampant anti-trans legislation, i stand by my work with a great deal of reverence 🙂‍↕️ (1/8)

Alabama is one of 3 states that don’t offer early in-person voting & require an eligible reason to vote by mail. This means for most Alabamians, Election Day is the only chance to vote. Meanwhile next door, more than half of Georgia’s active voters voted early.
