Major site establishment to extend light rail to Commonwealth Park will begin in the city centre next week. From Wednesday, 5 February 2025:.• Sections of London Ct west will be closed to motorists and on-road cyclists between Northbourne Ave and Edinburgh Ave.

• Some tree removal on London Ct west and Commonwealth Ave. • Additional construction compounds set up in the City Hill car park on the corner of London Ct and Constitution Ave, and the cloverleaf on the south side of Lake Burley Griffin between Flynn Dr and Commonwealth Ave.

Congratulations to Vanessa Brettell and Hannah Costello who have been named Australia's Local Heroes at the 2025 Australian of the Year Awards.

Hannah and Vanessa’s inclusive employment practices involve targeting female workers who are the sole income earners in their household, new arrivals to Australia, those with limited English or minimal employment history, and those experiencing homelessness.

The employees are supported to gain skills and experience, facilitating their entry or return to the workforce. Hannah and Vanessa also run a range of events through Stepping Stone, creating a welcoming hub for community to grow, with a focus on social justice and connection.

Major site establishment on light rail to Commonwealth Park is set to begin in the city centre on Wed 5 Feb. The entire western side of London Ct will close to regular traffic, with the exception of some movement from West Row, through London Ct, to Knowles Pl onto Edinburgh Ave.

Canberrans can now access an online construction impacts map to view info about road changes and other impacts relating to the construction of light rail, the Raising London Ct project, as well as parking impacts in the city. You can find the map here:
