Recently started a YouTube channel - Aevy TV. We spent a couple of weeks speculating the right ‘product’ for the channel, came up with 937382 ideas, dropped 90% of them and came to realise that the only thing that matters is market feedback.

On building and launching: 1. Build fast, launch fast and iterate fast. We spent an insane amount of time trying to perfect our product before taking it to market. Trust me you’ll rarely get your first product right, take your MVP to the market asap get feedback and iterate.

Fastest way to learn something new 👉🏻 See One. Do One. Teach One. This idea comes from surgical training, where students observe a procedure, perform the procedure on their own, then teach a trainee on how to conduct the procedure. Try this method to pick up any new tools.

1/ Not truly understanding the concept of functionality > aesthetics. It took a while for me to accept that people won’t always pick the better looking product. Aesthetic improvements rarely bring significant improvements.

Being pleasant and having a good attitude is a simple way to become luckier. Opportunities come through people, and people are more likely to bring opportunities to people they like. It's hard to win if your attitude adds friction to all interpersonal experience. h/t @JamesClear

2. Your vision and idea of what you want to create is irrelevant. Focus on the customer- their wants, needs and aspirations and build accordingly. We wanted to sell life skills, EQ development tools to parents, while they just wanted something to keep their kids off screens 😅

6/ I was quite scared to put my work out in public as it was never good enough in my eyes. ‘A lot of perfectionistic tendencies are rooted in fear and insecurity’. Stop doubting your work and don’t fear feedback- look at it as an opportunity to improve.

9. It’s easier to win as a big fish in a small pond. Try to get into a niche market! If you’re running a bootstrapped company in a market with a lot of VC funded companies, it’ll be really tough to scale. You’ll more often than not have to get funding if you want to win.

2/ Not taking feedback early on and spending too much time creating the best version of my design. Keep the team or whoever is involved in the decision-making process an active part of your progress- share your work early on, and get feedback on that first draft vs the final one.

Work expands to fill the time available for its completion ~ Parkinson’s Law. Reverse this model for maximum efficiency. The self-imposed time-constraints force me to drop the inconsequential work, focus on the vital 20% of the work that matters & get more done in less time 💯

4. Retention- If you leave retention as an afterthought, your business will most likely fail. Retention needs to constantly be a proactive effort. Even before a customer commits to your brand, ask how you can retain this person for the long-term.

7. Speak to all your customers in the first few months by yourself. The insights you’ll get from these customers will be invaluable. More importantly it’ll shackle a lot of preconceived notions and assumptions you had about your customer, and provide you the real picture.

2. Don’t try to reinvent the wheel learn from the mistakes of other founders and apply their learnings. You may think your company’s problems are unique to you, in reality a lot of things you face are quite common- talk to other founders regularly.
