We’ve been here before. The US tried to outlaw encryption in the ‘90s. Now the UK wants a backdoor. Same fight, different decade.
The UK government apparently thinks the Trump administration is too distracted to pay attention right now. Why else would they issue this secret demand that Apple, in the next few days, betray its users by installing a permanent global backdoor into encrypted material? The Trump administration should unequivocally condemn the U.K.’s power grab and take all necessary actions to protect the security and privacy of our citizens.
