Imagine being in life-or-death situations for 36 hours straight, no breaks. This is the harrowing reality for many doctors in India. #MedTwitter

India's healthcare startups operate in one of the most challenging yet rewarding markets. The trust deficit, distribution hurdles, and inertia highlighted are real barriers. But those who solve them aren't just building businesses, they're reshaping lives. Preventive health isn't just a product, it’s a mission. Trust, outcomes, and meaningful behavior change define its success. For founders, the focus should be on creating long-term trust and impact.
We've invested in 35+ health companies in India and these are some observations on what works (and doesn't). If you're a founder building in health and planning to raise funds, these notes are for you. 1/5

India’s Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) are the backbone of our healthcare system—lab techs, paramedics, pharmacists, and more who amplify the impact of every doctor. Yet, we have fewer than 10 AHPs per 10,000 people, compared to 150+ in developed nations. They’re the ones quietly contributing to timely diagnostics, emergency care, and patient recovery. As the world faces a shortage of 1.8 crore healthcare workers, India’s AHPs are not just essential—they’re a global lifeline. It’s time we value their work, invest in their training, and give them the respect they’ve always deserved. Healthcare isn’t just doctors—it’s a team, and AHPs are the unsung MVPs.
India is short of 50 Lakh medical professionals right now. The majority of medical staff (> 60%) aren’t doctors or nurses — they are AHPs (Allied Health Professionals). Due to a global shortage of ~ 1.8 crore AHPs, many countries ‘import’ AHPs who are trained in India… Traditionally, these roles have not been seen as the preferred career path but this is fast changing: In the past 2 years, a few startups have been founded to capture a slice of the $200bn annual opportunity in Healthcare training, staffing & recruitment:

Residency is one of the most important phases in a doctor’s life, it’s like a fresh chapter. It’s a time when they know their life after this will be completely different in terms of the impact they’ll create. Knowing that Knya can be a small part of making their residency a little easier and a way to celebrate these new beginnings means so much to us.

The emotional toll on doctors is an issue we don’t talk about enough. Patients often project their pain or frustration onto the very people trying to help them, creating a cycle of disrespect and invalidation. It’s worse when these behaviors shift entirely in front of authority figures, leaving young doctors feeling dismissed and unseen. This isn’t just about tough skin; it’s about systemic gaps. Doctors deserve more than gratitude; they deserve respect and a workplace where their mental health isn’t constantly tested by biases and dismissive attitudes.
There’s this old male patient admitted in the ICU. I have been withdrawing his blood from the radial artery for ABG every morning since the last 4 days. He always gives me a really hard time, asking me to away, calling me names but I let it slip by as the patient is not well contd

Samay Raina on KBC with Amitabh Bachchan—one moment, countless life lessons. From streaming chess to 40 viewers to sharing a stage with a legend, his journey is seen as both an inspiring success and a controversy. Some celebrate it as a win for persistence, while others question how someone known for bold comedy fits into such a prestigious setting. But the real lesson? Relevance is everything. Stay relevant, and the world will notice. Stay relevant, and even giants will recognize you. In the end, those who keep evolving will always stay ahead in the chat. @ReheSamay @SrBachchan

While every professional works hard to make a difference in society, professions that require long-term commitment, often away from home, are very different. You may be there for your family in moments of distress, but the regular moments, the time before distress, you just can't always be with them to live those experiences. Even if you practice or train in the same city, the mental burden of your duties follows you home. Medical professionals are built for sacrifices—hats off to them!
Waise yeh medicine ne life se bahot kuch liya bhi hai, during NEET PG prep Nanu passed away, was half crying and half studying, didn’t even have time to process and MD karte karte Dadu passed away, didn’t even get time to spend last days with him, the time we lose w our family.
