The accounts for Kincardine, the UK's second floating offshore windfarm are out, and we now know that it cost £398million to build, or £8m/MW. That's ten times the capital cost of a gas-turbine, but delivering only half as much power, and then intermittently. Insanity.

National Grid has said it will need to spend £120 billion upgrading the transmission grid for Net Zero. Its modelling suggests the distribution grid will be more than three times as much. That's half a trillion pounds, nearly £20k per household, just for the wires. Madness.

Floating offshore wind comes in at £220/MWh, or 22p/kWh. Allowing (optimistically) 8p/kWh for the cost of the grid and VAT, that gives, say 30p/kWh. At that price, it would cost £260 to run a 100W lightbulb for a year. This is insanity.

According to the Wall St Journal, Siemens has withdrawn its profits guidance to markets, because of a growing problem of component failure on its wind turbines. The government has bet the economy of the idea that wind is cheap and becoming more so. Everyone now knows its a lie.
