I went to Kashmir with my friends last year, in the middle of dal lake ride the boat guy said he hates India. What could be done to end this hate??
I was denied a hotel room because I’m Kashmiri. Yesterday, when I arrived in Gujarat for work purposes, I needed to stay at a hotel. I went to a nearby hotel where the receptionist initially showed me the room and completed all the formalities. But when I showed my ID card, he was shocked to see that I’m from Jammu and Kashmir. He seemed confused and asked me to wait. Then, he made a call to someone, possibly the manager, to check if they should allow a Kashmiri to stay or not. Eventually, they made excuses, and I had to leave. Anyway, I found a room in another hotel, but the incident left me thinking. On one hand, people claim that Kashmir is an integral part of India, yet on the other, there’s this bias and mistrust. Over the past two years, I’ve traveled to more than 12 states and over 30 cities, meeting both positive and negative minded people, but I’ve never encountered something like this before. Sadly, such incidents expose the deep rooted hypocrisy in our society.
