All being well, Baby Young will be here in January 2025 🥰 Kerri and Lewis delighted, cats all a bit curious and doing some reading on it before they make a decision.
@Lew_Young
Steve was in attendance at the Hillingdon Council planning meeting in which they heard an application for a fish and chip shop in Uxbridge town centre.
He voted against it.
We have a fish & chip shop in Cowley & one near St Andrew’s Park, but we don’t in Uxbridge Town Centre.
That’s why I’m launching a campaign to get us a fish & chip shop in Uxbridge Town Centre, but I need your support to do it.

world leaders were publicly begging Taylor Swift to tour in their country due to economic impact & here in the UK we've got journalists who've decided to create a witch hunt to see who gave her extra security DAYS after a terror attack on her and her fans was thwarted. Pathetic.
@christiancalgie
come on, it's perfectly valid to say he will be carving out protected time to spend with his family. That shouldn't be controversial. He obviously would deal with emergencies, feels disingenuous to suggest otherwise.
I've loved you three years now
@Lew_Young
but I want them all 👰💍
Last night my favourite person in the whole world asked me to marry him and I've never said the word "absolutely" with such certainty.
On a practical level, Halloween evenings are very kid-orientated and it's quite frustrating that parents may forego popping out to the polling station because they're taking their kids trick or treating.
no longer feel the need to argue about VAT on private school fees on twitter. It's happening, it's the right thing to do, and those who think that parents who send their kids to private school are the only ones who work hard can go and cry about it.
BREAKING: Rishi cares about women because he has daughters.
Not because they're equal to men and deserve rights, respect, and safety. But because he knows some women.
@christiancalgie
do you personally know for a fact that the current and former PMs haven't instructed diary secretaries to block bits of time out for family commitments? because I'd be shocked if that's the case.
The Labour candidate for Islington North is likely to receive a whole load of unwarranted and unnecessary abuse and criticism for daring to stand, so whoever it is I hope the entire party rallies behind them with support even if they're not your faction within the party.
Today I was selected to be one of Labour's two candidates for Ropner ward in Stockton ahead of the elections taking place in May, along with current Councillor Javed.
I've been out of local government for a grand total of 7 months and I can't wait to get stuck in again.
This morning
@Lew_Young
and I bought a house!
After a fun year in Stockton, we're moving a few miles down the road to Middlesbrough (hey
@AndyMcDonaldMP
!)
hi as we go into a Taylor Swift album release day, please remember that if you're not a fan, you don't have to tell everyone. It isn't required. You can just ignore it and let people have their silly little interests that make them happy.
If I were an Labour MP and I had deliberately inflamed tensions by othering people and talked about hotels belonging to local people, I'd be issuing a massive apology and promising to learn from this, not pretending as if I had done nothing to add to this.
I lived and worked in Uxbridge for many years, and held senior roles in Uxbridge CLP, and while I didn't get down for this by-election for reasons and can't talk to this campaign specifically, this was never going to be an easy seat for Labour to win.
I had the best weekend with family and friends who travelled from all over the country to witness me marry
@Lew_Young
and start our life together as husband and wife 👰🤵
Formal pictures in a few weeks but I'm loving all the photos I've been sent from guests.
Thirty, flirty, and thriving!
Enjoyed turning ✨30✨ today, and feeling very grateful because when I was 26, depression told me I'd never make 30.
But here I am, looking forward to the year ahead and all it has to offer 🥳
I've been bundling leaflets for 13 years and only now am I realising that I don't need to count out 100...I can just weigh one bundle and match the rest by weight 🙄🤦♀️
I hope someone is drafting a long piece about David Evans' impact on Labour returning to Government because I'd be very eager to read it.
When you're behind the scenes, you can often get blamed when things go wrong but rarely credited when things go right.
Welcome to your forever home, The Rt Hon Ellen Whiskerson (Ellen for short).
We've waited for 3 weeks to bring you home with us, and in just a few hours you've made our hearts swell with love 😻
This isn't something I'm going to tweet about often..
But today I received my certificate of appointment to be a Magistrate/Justice of the Peace in the Family Courts.
I'm really looking forward to doing something new and giving my time to an important function.
This won't be the first or last time this will need to be said, but: VOTE SHARE DOESN'T WIN ELECTIONS - WINNING THE MOST SEATS DOES.
There's no point piling up votes in cities if we fail to win towns.
Thankfully these people are no longer in charge of running Labour elections.
why hasn't anyone with brains developed a genuinely good and popular alternative to twitter yet? I feel like the only thing keeping me here is having nowhere good to go.
Feels like we're the closest to winning a General Election than any time in the last 13 years and Some People on Twitter are still finding reasons to moan about it.
For those who want to pretend otherwise: Labour winning PCC in Cleveland is more telling about what'll happen at a General Election than the Tees Valley Mayoral election.
I cannot believe that a *Labour MP* has opposed a home for people with learning disabilities in their constituency because it would (apparently) affect the character of the area?!?!
"illegal migrants" fuck off
@PolitlcsUK
- the fact that they're in asylum accommodation is directly contradictory to them being "illegal migrants".
And ultimately, the tweet should read "protestors have stormed the holiday inn express in Rotherham and people are inside".
It's taken them 24 hours to come up with a plausible defence of what he might have said instead. But Cleverly clearly uses two syllables - not 3. He said 'shithole', not 'shit MP'. We heard it for ourselves.
James Cleverly actually called Alex Cunningham "a shit MP" - not his constituency "shithole", according to a source close to the home sec.
"He apologises for unparliamentary language."
the problem with Rishi saying he's against VAT on private schools because of parents who work hard and aspire for their kids etc is that it suggests that parents who can't afford private education don't work hard or aspire for their kids
A nice little pack from
@CoopParty
arrived today confirming I can stand as a Labour & Co-Operative candidate in May's Stockton on Tees Council elections, including a glossy new rosette! 🌹
@TeesValleyCoop
Really excited to have had my candidacy formally accepted by Stockton on Tees Borough Council to stand in Ropner ward on 4th May, and to be standing alongside Cllr Javed.
🌹
I didn't know Margaret well but 9 years ago a mutual friend told her I was trying to get a job in Parliament, so she called me up and gave me advice on my CV & cover letter. I ended up getting that job.
She didn't know me, but she took 10 minutes to pretty much change my life ♥️
Dear Friends
@Siobhain_Mc
has asked me to let you know that her wonderful, brilliant, brave sister Margaret McDonagh died this morning surrounded by people that loved her.
@ellegist
Hello, I'm one! Family courts. I feel very passionate about children's wellbeing and I work a condensed fortnight in my day job to have one day off every 2 weeks to sit in court. Have to sit 13 full days each year so this gives me 26.
Sooo I didn't win my election today. Disappointing but losing elections is part of being in politics.
Got some other good news this week though that will take up lots of my time 😅
Introducing our new family members: Betty and Harold 😻
Collectively with Ellen, they are the Pawliamentary Labour Party (PLP).
5 points if you can name the 3 former Labour MPs they're named after!
@Lew_Young
Lots of people asking whether we lost because the Uni students wouldn't have been there.
I don't think we could have found 500 votes from students that live in the seat.
- Many aren't eligible to vote
- Many commute from elsewhere
- Brunel is quite apathetic to politics
Every morning Betty meows and meows until we put her in this bag that a bridesmaid dress came in, and then she'll sit in it for ages until she decides she wants to get out just to be put back in the bag again
£1.4bn doesn't simply lift hundreds of thousands of children out of poverty.
They will be able to perform better in school. Better food can improve health. Even a slight uplift in household income can improve parent well-being which hugely benefits children.
It's so much more.
@nazirafzal
we rescued three cats, all had to be indoor cats. We built a 'catio', and when another cat entered the garden, one of our cats scaled the living room wall, pissed all up the wall, on the ceiling, on the floor, broke the blinds...because they *saw* a cat. Some wouldn't survive!
I say this as someone who was a brunel student, chair of brunel labour for 2 years, and worked for the student union for two years with part of my job being voter registration.
The Stockton Conservatives have put out a leaflet in this ward attacking me for *having been a Councillor before in a different place* yet their candidate has made vile, antisemitic comments.
Improved due diligence checks picked up multiple antisemitic posts by Shakeel Hussain and halted his application to be a Labour candidate in this year’s
@StocktonCouncil
election. So it surprised me to see him standing for the Tories in Ropner ward. Didn’t they ask why he’d left?
Horrifying. When are we as a society going to address that the far right are becoming more and more popular with young men? Not just Reform, but Andrew Tate and the like.
And I can't wait to hear how it's somehow the fault of women.
I'm so bored of the same old questions. What about schools? Social care? Mental health? Childcare? Delays in the justice system? Violence against women and girls?
Oo if inheritance tax is cut, my inheritance (along with millions of other ordinary people in the UK) would go from £0 to £0.
Brilliant policy, really recognises the issues facing people today...
NEW:
@BloombergUK
Saturday read
Rishi Sunak is considering cutting inheritance tax at the next election, according to people familiar
Senior Tories think this could be the secret weapon to close the polls
Massive breakthrough in our house this morning. Only 12 days after we got the kittens, Harold has climbed into Ellen's box with her - and she *let him* and then started grooming him 😱
have the Conservatives considered giving the under 50s anything good just for once or are we going to end up being the first generation without a state pension or any property to live in for our old age or just any form or meaningful existence
make-up free and sweaty jump scare picture BUT I just finished couch to 5k and considering I'm someone who skipped PE at school, this feels like a massive accomplishment for me. Big shout out to
@RealDeniseLewis
('s voice) for pushing me through these last 9 weeks 🙌
#couchto5k
The two wards that the Uni campus accommodation straddles are normally Tory wards, with Labour gaining 1 seat in one of them in 2022. Students were around in 2019, 2017, 2015, 2010.... and we didn't win then either.
We might have found 50 votes. But not 500.
I was sent this video today which is the first time I've seen our first dance and it's just so nice remembering it all 🥰
There are four left feet dancing in this video, despite my GCSE in Dance...

I think there's got to be some decent standard of living. It's not the odd night here and there but 3/4 nights minimum. Plus if MPs have families, there should be enough room for them. It's a tricky one. I think parliament should buy up properties and allocate on need.
