“It’s impossible to receive what you don’t have space to hold.”
2 Kings 1-3; Luke 24:1-35 – Know: Faith is not a prize to be earned, but a gift to be received. There is no achievement in following Jesus. Without God’s intervention, I could learn about Jesus like I would any other historical figure. I could know about Jesus, but to know him, love, him, and abide in him requires a change of heart. And, no amount of effort or learning changes the heart. It’s impossible to receive what you don’t have space to hold. To receive, I must be emptied. My selfish desires, cravings of control, and false notions of self-rule must be laid down to make space for truth to enter my life. Busyness, hunger, anger, ambition, competition, resentment, conflict, and lust have no place in a life ready to receive Jesus, and all he has for me. Posture matters. I must go palms down before I can go palms up. Father, what do you have for me? What fears am I living with? Are there things I’m believing that are untrue about me or others? Be: unhurried in my pursuit of Jesus. Do: Deconstruct all that competes for space in my soul, letting Jesus fill me.
