I don’t want to doompost, but with major events coming up in Europe (Eurovision, EURO2024, Olympic Games), we might be hearing a lot about ISKP again over the next months, so I made an ISKP external ops 101 map with the basics. 1/4🧵

While the share of Jewish targets also significantly increased since 7/10, the baselines (2 attacks, 11 foiled plots) remain lower than one would expect given the sustained IS/AQ & co. campaigns constantly calling for attacks against them. Details & analysis in the article above

@SaladinAlDronni Yep, over a dozen foiled attacks since May. Only a matter of time until more slip through, like in September:

Plotted jihadist activities in Europe since 7/10: 39 plots, 11 attacks, ~ one attack and three foiled plots each month on average. Challenging times for European authorities, but the interception rate remains remarkably high (~80%). No palpable effect of Ramadan once again.

No obvious temporal pattern in general. The spike in May seems to be random - I at least couldn't find a single factor that these incidents would have in common & would explain the surge, but maybe other analysts have some ideas

4) In terms of jihadi attacks in Europe, 2024 so far is one of the quietest years since 2014, even if it doesn’t feel that way with all the foiled plots and arrests. Could indicate weaker capabilities of terrorists and/or counter-terrorism being more effective 5/5
