The man to unfurl the League Flag for nine in a row has to be Bobby Lennox. Lisbon Lion, two-time European Cup finalist, there all the way through the original and best nine, and the second highest scorer in Celtic’s history. Who’s with me?
The season has reached its end and even now, 24 hours later, is passing into Celtic folklore. For those of us lucky to have experienced it, treasure it. We’ll never see it’s like again. God Bless Billy McNeill and his Centenary Bhoys.🍀⚽️💯
Dundee have signed Albert Kidd from Motherwell in a £100,000 deal as they strengthen their squad in a bid to stay in the Premier Division this season. The 19 year old is a big Celtic fan and hopefully he’ll make a mark at Dens Park.
Celtic 4-2 Rangers and the fans are coming onto the pitch in celebration, exhausted players trying to make their way off the pitch. Unbelievable scenes here as Celtic, who looked dead and buried with half an hour to play blow Rangers away to rip the title from their grasp!
Tweet Celtic is taking a short break but we’ll return in late July in time for the build up to a new season. There will be a poll up shortly to help choose which one.
Newcastle paper, The Chronicle wrote back in May: “Policemen with dogs stood shoulder to shoulder behind the goal, defiantly gazing at the hordes of human animals they had just driven off the St James’ Park pitch. This was the night soccer wept for the name of Glasgow Rangers.”

Rangers played their penultimate league match of the season, and their last at home last night, in front of just 2,000 fans as they beat Partick Thistle 1-0. The Glasgow Herald didn’t even bother to publish a match report.

pick their greatest Scotland XI and not one mention of the greatest midfielder Scotland ever produced, Bobby Murdoch.
37 year old James Mason, of 33 Haddington Place, Edinburgh, was fined £2 at Edinburgh Burgh Court yesterday for spitting on Charlie Tully at the end of Celtic’s recent visit to Tynecastle.
The shock news from Park Gardens this evening is that the SFA have suspended referee Jim Callaghan for EIGHT WEEKS after holding an inquiry into his handling of the Celtic-Rangers match on 20th August, following a letter of complaint from Rangers.
Habemus Papam! The College of Cardinals in Rome has elected 58 year old Karol Cardinal Wojtyla, Archbishop of Krakow, as the new Pope. He has taken the name John Paul II in honour of his predecessor who died last month. Ad Multos Annos!
Tomorrow’s match is Rangers’ home game, with Ibrox undergoing reconstruction. It also marks the 60th anniversary of the end of WWI, but there are no plans either from Rangers or the Scottish Football League to do anything to mark the occasion.
Rangers informed us this morning that they could not guarantee our safety at Ibrox today, because we’re “a bit Timmy-looking,” so we’re unable to bring you the usual updates this afternoon. We’ll have a full report some time after 5pm this evening.
In 13 years as Celtic manager, Jock Stein’s achievements were staggering:
One European Cup and another final
Ten League Championships
Eight Scottish Cups
Six League Cups
Absolutely outstanding from Celtic, who played the English Champions off the park with some superb football. The 59,000 crowd can’t quite believe what they’ve seen tonight, as welcome as it was unexpected. Celtic aren’t going to win this competition, are they?

Seasons Greetings to Celtic supporters in this week’s Celtic View from the leader of the opposition, Margaret Thatcher, who seems to be a bit of a fan...
Next up today is 23 year old Wim Jansen. The short, stocky Jansen is the powerhouse of Feyenoord’s midfield, noted for his ferocious tackling and incongruously, his quiet demeanour that sees him nicknamed “Stille Willem,” or “Silent William.”

Paul McStay was the overwhelming winner of the Scottish Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year award at their dinner in Glasgow last night
Had the beginnings of an idea for a new project - Celtic: The Damned 70’s, charting the mistakes, the misfortunes, and the disasters that brought Celtic from Milan ‘70 to the pits of despair ‘78, with the happy ending of ten men winning the League ‘79. Thoughts? Too depressing?
Been an incredible afternoon at Celtic Park, we’ll leave you with the thought that Celtic are the first club in top class football ever to win their national championship in their Centenary Year. We might never see a day like this again. Reaction and Premier League scores later.
The pitch is cleared at last and the heroes in green and white are back out to take the deserved adulation of the fans. Just in case it’s been forgotten amidst the madness of that game, CELTIC ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!

It’s definitely all over now as Murdo MacLeod is buried under a pile of bodies celebrating his incredible winner. Andy Lynch is too tired to do much else but smile
Words cannot do justice to that pass from Paul McStay which will surely be referred to in the future simply as “that pass from Paul McStay.” You’ll just have to watch Sportscene later to appreciate it. Inch perfect. Breathtaking vision and weighting. Perfection!
Just magnificent Celtic! It looked all over with 35 minutes to go as Johnny Doyle was ordered off but what happened next is almost supernatural. The ten men looked like they had the extra player as they found reserves of strength and willpower they probably didn’t know they had.
