I don’t think the drinking less is entirely to do with demographic change. My son in law is 21. White, Irish, plays rugby. Has a couple of pints a week, as do most of his friends. His situation is unusual as he’s married with children, but his friends just have other things they’d rather spend money on. Subscriptions, gym, travel, running a car is much more expensive than it was and going out to eat seems to be more popular amongst young people than it used to be.
