Faculty Against Antisemitism Movement (FAAM) is a network of academics who stand against antisemitism on campus — and demand that university leaders join them.
Joined April 2024
➡️ @columbiafsi met Maya Desiatnik, an IDF lookout who survived Nahal Oz on Oct. 7. She narrowly escaped, making her the only lookout who wasn't kidnapped or murdered at her base. Thank you for sharing your story with our faculty, Maya. 💙

Antisemitism is rising. We are, too. ✊ Our colleagues are taking a stand to protect academic integrity and combat hate. We're supporting nearly 3️⃣0️⃣ faculty affinity groups, stretching from California to Indiana to New York. And more are launching this semester. Is your campus next? Get help starting a group:

Faculty are practitioners of pedagogy, in particular, teaching difficult histories and concepts. Those skills, says Dean @michaeljfeuer of @GWtweets, prepare and position them to address antisemitism. They have the know-how; they just need the support.

Campus antisemitism has spiked, and with that, some have abandoned their humanity. ❌ @UCLA Professor Vivien Bert tells a personal story from 1958 to drive her point home: every person is a human being and deserves to be treated as such. 🎥: @JFrgatUCLA

🧡 Shiri Bibas, 33 🧡 Ariel Bibas, 5 🧡 Kfir Bibas, 2 Our faculty will keep saying their names and telling their stories until the last member of the Bibas family is brought home. #BringBibasBack #OrangeForBibas #BringThemHomeNow🎗️
Today we stood with the Bibas family in the middle of @columbia 's campus to show the world that we have not forgotten them. We will continue to wear orange and keep them in the public's eye. @BringBibasBack

👏 Dr. @BarHalpern16606, a clinical psychologist and @TheAENetwork grant recipient, spent her afternoon presenting to the Special Commission on Combating Antisemitism at the Massachusetts State House. She taught about the psychological impact of antisemitism and anti-Zionism on K-12 students, taking a hard look at the very real, very personal effect on their mental health. And the commission listened — intently. Dr. Halpern, thank you for taking and making time to do this. Combating hate in our schools and our world begins in the classroom. 📚

✡️ Our faculty friends helped run the FIRST meeting of the “Social Work, Jewish Identity and Judaism Special Interest Group” at #SSWR2025, the @SSWRorg conference. Professor Sara Schwartz of @USC and Professor Lori Sousa-Meixell of @RobertsWesleyan welcomed 30+ social workers to the meeting. 🤝 They spoke about Jewish life in relation to research and policy, and they even made plans for scholarship and communication throughout the year. We’ll be hearing more from this stellar group of professionals — no doubt!

The Faculty for Academic Freedom and Against Antisemitism, one of the many affinity groups we are supporting nationwide, was created at University of Illinois to… 1️⃣ Educate faculty, administration, students, and community members about the ways that academic freedom can be imperiled by anti-Zionist activism 2️⃣ Advocate for campus and university policies that protect academic freedom for faculty whose teaching or research are threatened by groups hostile to their political views 3️⃣ Enhance the experience of community and solidarity among faculty committed to the principle that Israel has the right to exist as the homeland of the Jewish people Learn more 🔗➡️

What a powerful and educational seminar! More than 40 faculty members gathered in Miami to start the @TheAENetwork Short Course + Fellowship, which kicked off with three days of listening and learning from one another. Here are some highlights… 💭 Sharing and validating emotions and experiences, and acknowledging the trauma many faculty members have felt in the last year. 🗣️ Having deep conversations about foundational, systemic challenges on our campuses and how we can address them effectively. 📊 Hearing from activists, scholars, and practitioners on contemporary antisemitism data. Among our guest speakers: award-winning Israeli journalist @Nadav_Eyal and influencer and international peace activist @lalshareef. 🤝 Brainstorming practical and affordable ways to create constructive, rigorous dialogue on campus. We have a brilliant, caring cohort of faculty who are ready to fight against antisemitism and hate. To a successful academic year!

Zionism or feminism? Why not both? The push for students and faculty to “choose” is cornering them into making a false choice.
You can be a proud Zionist AND a proud feminist. 🇮🇱✊ Because these identities are complementary, not contradictory. They have been since 1897. Learn more: #KeepTheLightOn #FacetheTruth #Remember107

UPDATE: @ruaaup has been pressuring @RutgersU to divest from companies that do business with Israel and to sever academic ties with Tel Aviv University. President Jonathan Holloway said no. “Regarding academic partnerships, it is a point of pride that Rutgers faculty interact with scholars and universities in nations around the world,” President Holloway wrote in an email to Rutgers faculty. “The breadth of our partnerships is among our university’s great strengths. Moreover, Rutgers faculty come from around the world, and we are richer as a community for this diversity of experiences and perspectives.” Thank you President Holloway and our friends at JFAS (Jewish Faculty, Administrators, and Staff at Rutgers) for their vocal opposition to the demands of AAUP-AFT and for their commitment to academic freedom. 👏

Congratulations to our colleague and friend, Dean Luis Inoa! You deserve to be recognized and celebrated for making @Vassar safer for Jewish and all students. 👏
🔦 Meet #ShineaLight Winner Dean Luis Inoa! As an associate dean at Vassar College, Dean Inoa has demonstrated exceptional dedication to combating antisemitism and fostering inclusion for Jewish and Zionist students. Recognizing that genuine support of Jewish students would require a more complex personal understanding, Dean Inoa pursued extensive professional development, attending the Brandeis University Presidential Initiative to Combat Antisemitism and workshops with the Academic Engagement Network. In Fall 2023, he took decisive action when hostage posters were ripped down and issued campus-wide statements condemning harassment and discrimination to address antisemitism and anti-Israel prejudice. His daily meetings with Jewish students led over twenty-five Jewish students at Vassar to thank him formally for his unwavering support and leadership. Dean Inoa’s moral clarity and allyship directly contributed to a safer, more welcoming environment at Vassar College.

👏 Kol Hakavod to Professors @MeirMuller and Devin Randolph for receiving the @ShineALight_On 🔦 Antisemitism Civic Courage Award. Well deserved! They were honored for launching a new course on antisemitism and anti-Black racism at @SCSTATE1896 and @VoorheesUniv, two historically Black schools. Their students learned about the Jewish activists who helped found the @NAACP, the Black civil rights leaders who supported Zionism, the role Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) played in giving refuge to Jewish professors fleeing Nazi Germany during World War II, and other aspects of Black and Jewish history. And with a grant from the @TheAENetwork, Professors Muller and Randolph were also able to lead workshops on Judaism, Black-Jewish alliances, and antisemitism at other HBCUs. We are so proud of Professors Muller and Randolph for transforming their classrooms and campuses, showing educators and students how to build bridges through education. Well done!
