10 weeks of “pledging” in the hospital. No days off. Up @ 03:30 every morning. SICU Rounds @ 04:00. Gym by 05:00. Trauma Sign-out @ 06:30. Difficult? Yes, but I got exactly what I wanted. 🙏🏿

Very proud of our Chief resident Curtis Frederick who won both the “Resident of The Year” award AND the inagural “Lori L. Wilson Award” at today’s long white coat ceremony for
@HUCM2023
Well deserved Dr. Frederick!!!
The same attending that’s had a foot up my a&$ since intern year, looked me in my eyes last night after a difficult case, shook my hand and said….“Great Job”
Me: “Thank You Sir” 🥺😭
Words can’t begin to express how proud I am of this woman.
Congratulations to the new Chief of Nephrology at Elmhurst Hospital
@MountSinaiNYC

Took call last night and got an un-expected gift from one of my Juniors 🥹. They may have thought it was trivial/small, but it made my night and day 🙌🏿🙏🏿.

Nursing Staff: “You can’t do this case without your attending in the room”
Attending walks back in room: “Huh? He’s more than qualified to do this case without me here, please proceed Frederick”
Me:
At the end of an interview, I was asked “why should we hire you” after rattling off a few reasons, I ended by saying I was disciplined. One of the interviewers stopped me and said “Yes, you are. I could tell that from your zoom interview and it was reverberated here today” 🥹
Wearing a hospital fleece about to leave the gym, someone asked for some medical advice, which essentially turned into a consult. At the end I told him, come see me in the office and I’ll take care of that for you 😅😎.

@HowardUGenSurg
After a difficult Goals of care discussion with a family, a stranger standing close to the room (in plain clothes and no badge) stopped me to tell me that she was an attending from another hospital and that she admired my patience and communication skills during the encounter.
It’s crazy how you can spend so much time dreading something, but then after you go through it realize that it wasn’t that bad….The Mind Is Truly Powerful.
“Post call….?” “You’re a 4th year you don’t have post-call days, you’re just working another day” 🥲🥴
😂 Felt like a throwback to intern year, but a great day operating with
@nightcrawler718
😂 you never know who’s watching and who you’re inspiring.
Bruv at the gym said he always sees me going hard and after talking, asked how old I was. When he realized he was younger than me he hit me with the Kevin heart face and said “nah bro you’ve inspired me to lock in” 😂
After thanking her immensely, she actually proceeded to wait for my attending to provide the positive feedback to him as well. 🥺😩🙌🏿
Moral Of the Story: Always do the right thing/work as if someone’s watching, because inevitably someone is 👀💪🏿🙏🏿
Me: “Sir we can go this way”
Attending: “No Curtis.” “As a Surgeon you must never willingly walk through the ED.” “They don’t teach that in Schwartz or Sabistons.”
Me: 🙇🏿♂️😂😂 Yes sir 😂😂
Patient: *Jokingly* My Boyfriend will be here later and he works out, don’t make me have him beat you up.
Me: Well ma’am it’s a good thing I work out too 😎😂
