Live stream about this hack starting now: #37c3
Three researchers from TU Berlin have hacked Tesla's FSD software by removing the system and manipulating the voltage, thereby bypassing the circuit board's protection systems. Among other things, they uncovered a driving mode in which the car drives completely autonomously. However, such a hack is hardly possible with parked Tesla vehicles. The hackers stated that they had reported the vulnerability to Tesla. According to the three hackers, they were able to prove that Tesla's vehicles have the so-called Elon mode - a driving mode that allows the car to drive completely autonomously without the driver having to keep their hands on the steering wheel regularly. Such hacks by external experts are common and many companies including Tesla even pay for it to discover and close security gaps. Obviously, the media is trying to portray the story as a security risk and problematic, although it is quite normal that if you take apart and manipulate an electronic system, sooner or later you will find a way to crack it, depending on the effort involved.
