In his first race since a strong effort in the Kentucky Derby, Forever Young will go 2,000 meters right-handed in the Japan Dirt Classic at Oi Racecourse. Post time is 7:05am Eastern on Wednesday. The Breeders' Cup Classic at Del Mar will be next for the son of Real Steel.
No horse has won both the Wood Memorial and Kentucky Derby since Fusaichi Pegasus in 2000. Trainer Bill Mott has yet to win the Roses. Streaks are made to be broken … This is Tacitus!
If you haven't appreciated what Flavien Prat has been doing for the last several years, maybe Saratoga 2024 has convinced you. He is the best rider in the nation, bar none.
Spent a wonderful afternoon today at
@Oldfriendsfarm
. A big thank you to Michael Blowen for being so gracious with his time ... And I am very happy to say that The Pizza Man is right at home at Old Friends!
Happy retirement to Rombauer. He won three times in his eight career races. The biggest victory, of course, was the Preakness. He was also a triple threat, with his three wins coming on turf, Tapeta and dirt.
I believe we are all overdue an answer on the split test from Arkansas Derby day. We have not forgotten that Charlatan and Gamine originally tested positive.
Can you imagine running 1:09 1/5 in a 10-furlong race and having another horse right behind you just cruising along and ready to take over whenever asked? Poor Life Is Good.
So saddened to see there are still people out there that don’t believe in CoVid. They believe in their politics rather than this deadly pandemic. It’s scary.
Racing is not dead, but leaders of the industry are pushing it in that direction. "He has all the credentials—pedigree, elite ability, and looks. We felt he had the ability of a Grade 1 winner.” That quote comes from WinStar chief Elliott Walden. Heartland made 1 career start.
We are now 13 races into the career of Monomoy Girl, and a single horse has ever finished ahead of her. That came in her juvenile year. She finished first under the wire in all four races against Midnight Bisou. I ask you ... isn't it about time we give her a little credit?
I know his brother took home the Shoe award, but how about
@jose93_ortiz
in the Breeders' Cup ...
1st Pizza Bianca (9-1)
1st Aloha West (11-1)
2nd by a half-length My Sister Nat (29-1)
2nd by a nose Dunbar Road (12-1)
3rd Kaufymaker (24-1)
He’s not Baffert, Pletcher or Brown, and that is exactly what makes the story interesting. Wouldn’t it be nice to see a little guy like Todd Fincher win one of the big ones for a change?
Here are the eleven horses nominated for the Travers:
Batten Down
Corporate Power
Doc Sullivan
Dornoch
Fierceness
Honor Marie
Le Dom Bro
Seize the Grey
Sierra Leone
Thorpedo Anna
Unmatched Wisdom
The Travers is likely to include both the winner of the Kentucky Derby and the winner of the Preakness -- Neither will be among the top five favorites.
With that impressive win in the Pennsylvania Derby, Seize the Grey becomes the sixth American horse with multiple Grade 1 wins in 2024:
Thorpedo Anna - 4
Fierceness - 2
Dornoch - 2
Adare Manor - 2
National Treasure - 2
Seize the Grey - 2
Plenty called me brainless or worse after saying Maximum Security was not the second coming following the Kentucky Derby. Now I'm saying today's loss is far from proof that he's not the best 3yo of 2019. Try not to get so high or low, people. These horses are only human after all
First Hot Rod Charlie, then Essential Quality and King Fury, and now Mandaloun and Caddo River ... Can we just hand the Preakness trophy to Baffert now and be done with it?!?
Having a soft spot for the fillies, my appreciation only grows when they test the boys. Many of my all-time favorite 3yo fillies showed no fear against males ...
Genuine Risk ♥️
De La Rose ♥️
Christmas Past ♥️
Ouija Board ♥️
Rags to Riches ♥️
Rachel Alexandra ♥️
Thorpedo Anna ♥️
Nest is the only horse in America with three Grade 1 wins in 2022. The daughter of Curlin has won those three races by an average margin of 8 1/4-lengths.
Never been political, but this administration needs to be checked. Less than 4 years in, we are the divided states of america. Four more years and I really cannot fathom what this country will become. I’m very ready to make my voice heard for a return to justice and optimism.
A Breeders' Cup Classic with Tom's d'Etat, Maximum Security, Code of Honor, Tiz the Law, Midnight Bisou, Honor A.P., Tacitus, Improbable, By My Standards, Mucho Gusto, Art Collector and Uncle Chuck wouldn't be bad.
@BreedersCup
In 22 career races, 21 of them stakes, she never once failed to fire. You cannot say that about many horses. Heal up soon and enjoy the next stage of your life Midnight Bisou.
Somewhat obscured by all the big races today was Whitmore. The 7-year-old gelded son of Pleasantly Perfect won the Hot Springs Stakes impressively this afternoon at Oaklawn Park. It was his fourth consecutive year winning the race!
@RonMoquett
Bayern should have been disqualified from victory in the 2014 Breeders' Cup Classic. I said it then, and I say it now. That gutless decision by the stewards at Santa Anita is not a good argument against Maximum Security being taken down in the Kentucky Derby.
Gutted by the news of the break down and death this morning of Taraz. I thought she was going to be special. My condolences to everyone connected to her.
Wife: "Can we do something interesting tomorrow?"
Me: "You know what would be fun -- watching the Ohio Derby, Vagrancy, Fleur de Lis, True North, Stephen Foster, and Just a Game."
Wife: *crickets*
I love the grays ... Who’s your favorite? Here are my top 5 favorites all-time in no particular order:
- Spectacular Bid
- Lady’s Secret
- Free House
- Princess Rooney
- Frosted
The Travers is not just
@Thorpedo_Anna
vs. the boys. It is the overall quality of the field. All eight are stakes winners. Half the field are already Grade 1 winners. All are coming in with good form. Who is going to be where early? Who is going to finish best?
#ChampionshipRace
I would absolutely love to see Honor A.P. get a chance to run 1 1/2-miles over that main track at Belmont Park ... too bad they don’t have such a race.
Hey
@Airbnb
Booked a home for family vacation over spring break 12 weeks ago. Paid for in advance. I contact host three days before arrival for the lockbox code and she says it's been double booked. Customer service no help at all. Family vacation ruined. Never using Airbnb again
CDI says - "points from any race in the Road to the Kentucky Derby will not be awarded to any horse trained by any individual who is suspended from racing in the 2022 Kentucky Derby or any trainer directly or indirectly employed, supervised, or advised by a suspended trainer."
Tacitus proved on Saturday that he deserves a shot in the Breeders' Cup Classic. Read now as I discuss that, and make a comparison between him and last year's winner, Vino Rosso.
I must need glasses. I can't be reading this right. There are only four horses in the Bob Lewis and they are all trained by Baffert ... You cannot be serious!?!
I can't recall a race where every horse in the field was a millionaire. Sure we could have eight or nine in the Whitney, but I am just fine with having five of America's best making up the entire field.
Swiss Skydiver is nominated to both the $600,000 Blue Grass (G2) and the $400,000 Ashland (G1) on Saturday, July 11 at Keeneland ... Very interesting 🧐
Statement from Peter Miller (excerpt from press release) …
"I am sorry to announce that Stormy Liberal will be leaving our barn to continue racing under another trainer. Both my veterinarian and I believe the horse should be retired."
If any trainer is going to have a huge Breeders' Cup, my pick would be Steve Asmussen. He has Echo Zulu on Friday and Jackie’s Warrior, Silver State, Snapper Sinclair, Clairiere, and Max Player on Saturday.
