I am observing that as well, but I'm not seeing Lucas as being slighted. For a character who isn't on the screen much, the material has Lucas all through it. On the contrary, I see characters like Molly, Faith and Flo completely sidelined. I really hope that changes because they're great performers.

@litcrittree3 @LadyKioti @AngelaG40003830 @jpatel2001 @ChooseLove86 YES. (Erin's eye dart was sooo well done in that scene btw) I seriously thought that when Nathan left the house, his smirk said something like "now I've gotcha." Immediately following, Elizabeth goes backwards to Jack...(respect to Team Jack out there)

I can respect that. However, Nathan and Lucas ended season 8 as gentlemen with an understanding. Lucas trusted that when Elizabeth met him at the bridge, she had used the freedom Lucas granted when he left her house to fully search her heart for with Nathan. Nathan realized there was more to Elizabeth's relationship with Lucas than what met the eye and he agreed to support them. Nathan could even be credited with helping Lucas feel confident enough to propose to Elizabeth.

Ok. To me, her inability to look him in the eye was appropriate bc at the time, she was planning a happy future with Lucas while Nathan was sitting in her home looking after her son even though she never fully makes amends for reducing their entire friendship and history to searching for Jack.

Retrospectively speaking. After watching the show up through S12 episode 6, for context, the apple juice scene does not feel as romantically heavy. It just feels awkward and incomplete; which is how I originally saw it. It's Elizabeth's actions *afterward* that dictate the meaning of that scene.

You know, it's really funny...after watching Elizabeth and Nathan have time together, I don't see that scene as heavy on the romantic tension. I also suspect that had they dragged out the time of that scene, Nathan could have given Elizabeth a "piece of his mind" and that would have helped Elizabeth to take responsibility for the role she played in his heartbreak.

I actually believed that element was some very mature storytelling. Brian Shively asked a brilliant question to another L fan who felt Nathan should have no part of Elizabeth's and LJs life. He simply asked: Why would you want that? I always thought the intention of the writing was kindness first. So to me, Elizabeth having a romantic relationship with Lucas but balancing that with a meaningful friendship with Nathan and his daughter was just beautiful.

The P and P scene doesn't have the emotional impact up front as the Sanditon one. However, the compunding of several events leading up to Darcy's arrival make take that scene over the top. πŸ’œ

The further we go, the harder this gets!!!! If you could only live with *one* of these romantic scenes from a period drama, which would you choose?

If you have said any of the above, then you must accept that ALL of the following are possible: * Elizabeth can be in a multi season long dream. Alice in Wonderland is a dream, as is Through the Looking Glass. * Elizabeth can choose to live in any "reality" she desires, fairytale or otherwise, because it's *her* story, and she can *do* whatever she desires. * Elizabeth can choose to leave the past and jump to any point in time in the story. It's *her* story. * Elizabeth can both say and portray one thing on screen, and abruptly change her mind without warning, using the word "safe." * The writers can use AIW/Dream plot device/ introduce new plot devices on a whim, with little explanation, using ratings as justification
