SDSU students face rising rents and brutal commutes. University plans to fix this by housing 5k students in new towers. Students living on campus graduate faster and cut car traffic. Past NIMBY victories blocking campus housing created today's crisis.

@KenPlatt45 You're worried endless waves of rich newcomers mean building more won't help. But those wealthy folks are coming regardless. When we don't build, they just outbid everyone for existing homes. More housing gives locals a fighting chance instead of guaranteed bidding wars.

Encinitas approves high-end housing while zero affordable homes are even approved for construction. Planning Commission's own data shows they're failing working families.

@AgentBaz The ADUs must follow certain rules that also apply to single-family homes: -You can only build up to a certain total floor space -You can only cover up to a certain amount of yard -You can only build up to a certain height These allow it to maintain neighborhood scale.

@justasteer The language in the vote requested staff to dismantle program. The dismantling hasn't happened yet, but the first step has been taken.

@AgentBaz AB 1033 is one option to increase home ownership opportunities. The City must adopt it though.

@KenPlatt45 When we don't build enough, only the richest win - pushing out the teachers, nurses & local families who make our community special. More homes means your kids might actually afford to stay in the neighborhood they grew up in.
