I've been sober 2 years, 8 months and 17 days.
This struggle is very real for many Natives. I've lost many close relatives to alcohol including my lil brother.
If you're starting your sober journey I'm hopeful for you ✊
Me and my naali in 1999. Getting pics developed at Walmart. My naali raised me for 4 yrs while my mom was getting her life together. I love my naali, still strong today at age 96.
Wanna give a shout-out to all the bus drivers, mechanics and staff at Chinle and other Rez schools for being there and getting kids to school/home esp when the roads get like this (every year)
We celebrated my grandma's 98th bday 🎂 We had good food, good people and good prayers. She was so happy to see everyone she gave away a lot of blankets, pillows and items she made. It was an amazing giveaway. I hope to be as generous as her one day 💜
Big condolences to my aunt Judy and her family as they lay Christine Lester to final rest with her family on MMIW awareness day. After 36 yrs of not knowing, she's finally home and going to rest next to her mother today.

I've never seen an eclipse outside. My mom told me long ago that it was our tradition to not look at it. Maybe it's for you but it's not for me.
I don't force anyone to follow the Navajo traditions and I hope I'm given the same respect to follow tradition.
Thank you
@Megadeth
for showing up & doing an amazing show. They broke the record for having the largest crowd at any Navajo Nation concert!!!

I grew up Rez - no running water, sponge baths, KTNN, chopped woods, learned to make a fire, herded sheep, moved hay, grew corn and hauled water. So grateful to my gma, uncle and aunt who taught me these things.
Being an auntie is one of the hardest and most satisfying jobs in my life. My nephews have been living with my mom and I for over 3 yrs. We don't want them in foster care so we do what we can for these lil ones.
My mom applied for running water from IHS at the Navajo Nation Housing Fair. She has a hogan with no running water or electricity. NTUA said they have the funds for people who need water/electric. Apply with them first. Difference of 20 yrs vs. 2 yrs!
@Songstress28
I haven't had the convo with my sons yet. I'm trying to shield them from that traumatic event but I also want them to know our Navajo history. I'll figure out a good place and time for us to discuss it.

When I left a similar situation, officers provided supervision while I got my things & kept my ex separate from me. A cop convinced me it was time to leave. Sucks it was different for this woman. I hope she has a better life now.
I took my 10 yo sons to Albuquerque for spring break and we checked out Barnes & Noble. They were fascinated. One of my sons is an avid reader, he said it's his favorite store now 📚
Asking prayers for my fam. At 98 my naali is ready for a nursing home. My fam is now fighting about who will get her house. I've been accused of being greedy. It's sad seeing all this. I had to tell ppl I don't want anything - all I care about is my naali 😔
@nytimes
Wow. I'm Navajo. My mom and maternal grandmother are still waiting for running water. Sadly my maternal grandmother died last year so she never had running water in her home. We hauled water. That was her whole life.
On the brighter side - my nephews enjoyed the Shiprock flea market and the toys they got. They like the 50 cent cupcakes and the $2 tamales but not the heat 😆
Charlie Hill joke: "I went to Custard Memorial Junior High. Taught me about a lot of things I couldn't relate to, like the pilgrims, they weren't my forefathers. Pilgrims came to this land 400 yrs ago as illegal aliens. We used to call them, 'white-backs'."
I suffer from depression & I'm thankful to be alive today. It's hard having depression esp on the Rez. If you're Native & suffer from depression leave a '🤎'.
It's important to know we're not alone in this struggle ✊🏿
