XRISM observed the elliptical galaxy M87, 55 million light-years away in the direction of Virgo. There is a black hole 56 million times the mass of the Sun lying at the center of M87, from which jets are emitted over 8 000 light-years.

XRISM observed the NGC 4388, 5.9 million light-years away in the direction of the constellation Virgo. This galaxy lies at the center of the Virgo cluster of galaxies and is moving away from us at a speed of 2500 km/s.
