The number of earthquakes has exceeded 1,300. The earthquake swarm is still going strong, and the state of emergency continues in Santorini. It looks like the EQ frequency & intensity are on a downward trend, though.

An intense earthquake swarm is rattling the island of Santorini, Greece, leading to evacuations. Earlier today, a M5.1 earthquake joined this swarm — the strongest so far.

More acres have been burned by wildfires in January 2025 across California than in all the Januarys of the past 30+ years combined. Unreal.

Watching a storm undergo explosive cyclogenesis is truly one of the most spectacular meteorological processes to witness. Éowyn has just proven this once again.

An extremely dangerous and potentially record-breaking bomb cyclone is just hours away from severely impacting Ireland, especially, and parts of the UK. Storm Éowyn will unfortunately reach its peak intensity right at landfall with wind gusts possibly exceeding 200 km/h.

New drone shot from Pacific Palisades shows entire blocks of homes literally burned to the ground. The Palisades Fire alone could become the "costliest" fire in U.S. history. Courtesy of @KitKarzen

Many areas across Europe will see their first snow of the season in the coming days as a cold Arctic air mass pushes south into the continent. There remains plenty of uncertainty in where the rain/snow line sets up & how far south snow may fall. Stay on alert if traveling!

The Philippines have now been hit by four typhoons in the span of just 10 days. Can't say I recall ever seeing this before.

Spain just can’t catch a break. An anticyclonic Rossby wave-breaking event will facilitate the development of yet another cut-off upper-level low next week. It’s too early for details, but the Levante region (eastern Iberia) should once again prepare for possible flash flooding.

2024 will very likely be the first year with an annual global temperature exceeding 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. It’s alarming.
