Hijab is not a culture. Hijab has systematically broken down and erased women's apparel in certain cultures - especially the Somali culture.
We are proud to be immersed I'm our respective cultures. We are proud to be

I never thought I could stan Jeff Goldblum more, but here I am. He's raised a very important question and these issues need to be more thoroughly discussed.
I'm sick of privileged white women using a tool of oppression to win social media points. Truly. You don't understand the level of suffering, brainwashing and trauma this single piece of cloth has caused for women - globally.
As a woman, as a free human being: how dare you?
Y'all realise the fact that
@mohammed_hijab
cannot have a "debate" with
@ApostateProphet
without resorting to personal attacks shows that he is deeply insecure about his faith, right?
Putting a baby in a hijab is not only indoctrination - it also instantly sexualises an infant. Children are pure & innocent, they don't have "awra" to cover.
Stop taking autonomy away from girls, stifling their ability to think critically & sexualizing them.

My friend

created the
#HandsUpForApostasyDay
social media campaign for The world's first International
#ApostasyDay
, established by The International Coalition of Ex-Muslims, the first of which is happening tomorrow!
It's my birthday! I'm finally 25!
I feel like it truly is a milestone, all things considered, and I just want to share some quirky facts in this thread:
Wore a niqab for 9 years and was a Salafi Muslim. Never once got called a terrorist.
Also, nuns choose to be nuns. Not all Muslim women choose to be Muslim women.
@blaiserbeam
Thank you ❤ I don't like what the hijab stands for as an idea. But people should be able to choose - I certainly did, to an extent. The struggle, however, was undeserved.
She's dropped:
Enjoy me debunking my delusional 16 y/o self about the hijab. Stand with the oppressed, the subdued, the true fighters on

The fight against forced hijab is the fight for women's rights in our decade.
So many issues in our communities are not addressed because of the fear of being labelled a bigot or "islamophobe". Racism, homophobia, domestic and honour violence, misogyny - I'm tired of these issues being swept under the carpet to protect the set of ideas that enables them.
Muslims might not be a race, Islamophobia might not be considered racism, but Muslims are racialised; certain attributes of their identity, expressions of their muslimness are racialised ie. seen as markers by which they are stigmatised and abused.

She was an ultra-conservative Salafi Muslim, a member of the Tableeghi Jamaat, and wore a niqab at age 11.
Two years ago, she gave it all up.
Our interview with the incredible Fay Rahman is available early for patrons:

If I can cover my face for fear of an imaginary entity's wrath for 9 years - you can wear a mask to protect you and others against a very real threat to human life.
Wear your damn masks.
It's so funny watching people use my tits as an argument.
Like, yeah, they're my tits. And what? Don't like, don't look. The Sistine chapel don't need your patronage to be 👌🏽
It's endorsing slut-shaming, antiquated gender roles, restrictive "modest" clothing, etc. Our fore-mothers fought so strongly to remove this systemic oppression - yet all of this is encapsulated in the form of this garment. And you, in your ignorance, would support it?
Let's make a thread! If you

Y'all keep saying this while I'm scraping by on a 10k yearly salary. Not a joke.
I hear this one more fucking time, and imma shill my PayPal with every fucking tweet I write.
Y'all fucking degenerates.
I offered you my friendship, I lent an ear to you and you burned me. You broke my trust, spat on my kindness and insulted me.
I don’t know what I did to you to deserve this.
When you’re buying milk, do you take the one that’s almost expired? Or do you reach for the ones all the way at the back?
That’s the same with women. No1 wants a ting that’s passed her prime. Don’t let social media pressure you into making that the norm.
This is actually gross. There's already a stigma around mental health and medication. I'm currently medicated. Plenty of people require medication to function - for both physical and mental ills.
This is exactly the type of rhetoric that creates extremely unstable people.
I've been part of the ExMuslim movement for just over a year and I think I'm calling it. I've had a good run, I think I've had my fill.
I'm going to do a deep clean of my timeline. If I don't feel that's enough, I may just deactivate my account.

I would like to request my friends and acquaintances in the skeptic community that are not from a Muslim background to also contribute in some way to

There are several ways that you can do this.
Many apostates attempt to alter their appearance to look more caucasian. They change many features which are biologically prevalent to them; blond hair, blue eyes. I wonder a wholesale consumption of Western ideologies is just an extension of this possible inferiority complex.
Don't forgive people because you share blood. Forgive people because they've earned your forgiveness. "Parent" or not, terrible people should not have their poor choices positively reinforced. Keep toxic people out of your life.
This is a story about honor violence. Teach women autonomy and teach men to respect it. Don't pin this awful tragedy on rumours - most social, petty rumours do not lead to killing your own child.
