Delighted to have worked with @CHTScotland & @Camusconsulting on this. We hope the paper will stimulate discussion, & ultimately lead to funding - both public & commercial - being made available to support a model of croft housing provision with clear public & community benefits
Continuing our focus on small-scale land use, we have published a Land Lines paper authored by @WoodlandCrofts @CHTScotland and @Camusconsulting discussing the benefits and barriers to landlord-provided croft housing. 📷Many thanks to @JohnWMacPherson for generously allowing us to use his images to bring colour to this paper. 🔗

We basically needs heaps of this stuff all around us… 👇🏻… and brilliant farms producing what we ought to be eating

Back to the future? Great thread here from Magnus which suggests that woodland crofts might be less novel to our pre-Clearance forebears than we might imagine.
10 miles today to find a stick. In 1881 an argument broke out in the letters page of the Northern Ensign between the landowner’s factor and some locals. The argument was about severity and responsibility of the Ulbster Evictions but tucked away was an anecdote about William Gunn.

We made the (perhaps) bold assertion that woodland crofts are the only state-sanctioned model of living & working in woodlands in the UK. Why bold? Because while Scottish legislation & policy seem to be supportive, actually implementing it on the ground remains a challenge.....
