1. Not all species are anisogamous. That doesn't mean anisogamy didn't evolve long before humans produced words to describe it.
2. Nature doesn't 'understand' anything - but nature exists regardless of our linguistic descriptions, including males and females.

Female was the person who was impregnated and who gave birth - this requires large gametes.
We just didn't realise it at the time.
When we discovered gametes we didn't all of a sudden change the sex of lots of females into males. This elements are all connected.

In biology we have studied and researched the the sexes for hundreds of years.
We have developed our understanding of the sexes, and as we have broken new biological frontiers this has added to our knowledge.

As I have explained our understanding of the sexes has developed and been enhanced. But a female as defined 2,000 years ago is a female today - we just have a better and more detailed grasp of what that means.
