Book Review. Talking to Strangers by Malcolm Gladwell — a fascinating look at why we misjudge people. I learned about our “bias to truth,” the danger of misreading cues, and the need for humility when dealing with others. Well researched, and eye-opening.

Whether it’s Kenyan tech entrepreneurs teaming up with U.S. businesses, diaspora communities building bridges, or partners tackling shared challenges, people-to-people ties are the bedrock. If we want stronger bonds, this is where we need to invest. 5/6

If there’s one lesson that’s stuck with me, it’s this: the real strength of this partnership isn’t just about diplomats or officials—it’s the people. They’re the heartbeat that’s kept it alive for six decades. 4/6

We saw a gap—there wasn’t enough accessible, up-to-date knowledge on how this partnership works today or the impact it’s having. So over the past year, we hosted 6 panel discussions on trade, investment, security, education, digitalization, creative economy & the Diaspora. 3/6

Our goal was simple but ambitious: 1) Create spaces to look back at the wins, challenges, and lessons from this 60-year partnership, and 2) Spark conversations about where we go from here. 2/6

Dr Winnie Rugut: External solutions, if not accompanied by the involvement of other actors, might not go very far, just like what’s happening in the DRC. It’s good that the guns have, to some extent, gone silent, but the real task is how to concretize the agreements. Global
