The obsession of local and small-scale governmental bodies with international foreign policy and incidents is so bizarre.
I shit you not, my parish council had a meeting on the Gaza conflict. Like bro, go back to focusing on street sign maintenance and the annual village fête.
🇵🇸 🟩Hastings Council is now run by a coalition of pro-Palestine independents and Greens.
8 of Labour's 15 councillors quit over Gaza. They joined with Greens to elect a Green Leader.
Elections for a third of seats will take place in May.
Petition with 66,000+ signature to 'Hold a referendum on removing the London Assembly and London Mayor'.
Lmao. I think this one has the funniest map yet.
Delighted to announce today that the 🇬🇧 Union Flag 🇬🇧 design is the winner of our poll of members for the new membership card design!
Over 25,000 members took part! And a huge thank you for your thoughts!
You know that dude who got flew to Afghanistan for shits n giggles when the Taliban took over and had to be evacuated by British Special Forces...?
Well he's now in Kyiv and not going into a shelter because Twitter said so with an air raid about to hit.
There is a warning of a large, imminent attack to kiev I've just heard about. I want to document it but that requires leaving the bunker. I could get trapped in the bunker too If we lose power again. What should I do?
I don't think American-Irish larpers realise the political avenue for a united Ireland has never been wider and shit like this is the biggest obstacle to its success.
People north and south of the border hate the IRA.
The New IRA today claimed responsibility for the shooting of John Caldwell, a Detective Chief Inspector in the occupied Irish provinces.
A reminder that until the 6 occupied territories are freed from English occupation, that no colonial stooge is safe from decolonial violence.

I have a feeling you're a troll but if not, it really shows a real problem with the American education system.
Democracy isn't an American invention. Electricity wasn't invented. Football (soccer) isn't American either.
@Xx_Stoogie_xX
So... because the UK government is supposedly impenetrable on foreign policy, your next point of call is local councils - who have definitively got absolutely zero power or say in foreign policy whatsoever?
Just seems like an extraordinary waste of time and resources.
The first map is for a petition with 226,000+ signatures to 'Remove LGBT education from the Relationships Education Curriculum'
Have a guess what the second map shows.
I'm intrigued by how they'd implement this in Northern Ireland - but methinks they've not thought about that, as is often the case.
Perhaps establish the 'Ulster Volunteer Force' or 'Ulster Defence Association' for the military side.
Dear Americans,
Outside it is currently 28 degrees Celsius.
My home is well insulated and does not have AC - like most British homes.
Indoors it is 32 degree Celsius.
So, kindly shut up. Thanks.

And now she has completely undone all that with her selfish 'mini-budget' that will inevitably push up interest rates and mortgages.
Unless you're in the top 1% of earners of course, then you've got nothing to worry about.
For a third place party regularly polling between 10% and 15%, the LibDems are virtually absent from politics beyond memes and the odd by-election.
It’s like the San Marino football team.
You support them in a cute “I’m so different, we’re so funny, we’re so bad” kind of way.
@JoshuaPotash
What about the jobs nobody wants?
I can't imagine someone will be enthusiastically running to a job unblocking sewers voluntarily in their own time.
The new IRA's thought process:
Step 1) Shoot a police officer at his son's football match.
Step 2) ...
Step 3) A socialist United Ireland
Just a bunch of gobshites.
@Liamprobably
>britain only became a thing because of a a scottish king
>scotland was hugely responsible for building ships for both the royal navy and merchantry which shipped goods and resources from the colonies
>who settled ulster? and under which (definitely not scottish!!) king's orders

You side with the Soviet Union, not exactly 'powerless' as a global superpower.
The victims of the Soviet Union's terror all happened to be poor people too - not really helping the 'powerless' there either.
@EEPolls_123
yeah, pretty easy
i just find it interesting how it's the complete opposite of this sort of discourse in america, where it's right wing, predominantly white, christians that are so anti-lgbt whilst muslims are far more progressive
@nikicaga
14-year old autistic kid, now getting death threats, who damaged a book and was apparently disrespectful to it. Kid's now not eating properly. Poor mother has to make a grovelling and unnecessary apology. Local Muslim community should be ashamed.
The mother of an autistic 14 year old boy who was involved in the desecration of the Holy Quran at Kettlethorpe High School in Wakefield tells Muslims at Jamia Masjid Swafia that her son is a "very silly boy" without "malicious intent" who is genuinely remorseful.
@EoghanHerriott
I can already imagine the scenes…
A lot of undecideds are actually just thick. The ‘they’re as bad as each other’ ‘all politicians are liars’ populist stuff.
Going to be a terrible show.

France, Spain, and the United States were in possession before + longer than Argentina has been. They have a better claim than Argentina's which presently is "It's close to us" - in which case Britain should just annex all of Ireland and a bit of France because it's nearby.

That's an exit poll... They release that as soon as polls close - and the count you see is the count at that present time - which massively changed in favour of Macron when Parisian votes came in

@JoshuaPotash
I've said it to someone else who brought up volunteer fire fighters - but that has a much greater reward of self-satisfaction than jobs like sewage cleaning, rubbish collection etc.
I don't deny people exist who would volunteer for these jobs - but there aren't enough.

dont think anyone claims that we single-handedly won the war
more that it is admirable that we stood alone and continued the fight against the odds, rather than making peace with hitler, after western europe fell and the soviets were busy cooperating with germany over poland
@Anchovy_Pizza
I find it hard to criticise the reaction when I’ve never experienced my homeland being invaded by a murderous regime - I have no idea whether I’d react the same way in such a situation, so I don’t think it’s wise to get up on my high horse and claim some sort of moral superiority

I do want to know one thing - what avenue of diplomacy hasn't been exhausted?
Putin has planned this for months and isn't interested in diplomacy - it's talking to a brick wall
yeah im back. dont know who is still around but a few things happened since i left.
- i turned 18
- i bought my first lottery ticket and lost

You packed an otherwise empty room full of pro-war Russian-sympathisers and won a vote. Well done you.
‘Hijacked’ is the most appropriate term here. 99% of your members didn’t vote. Meanwhile turnout for Brexit was 72% and Trump’s victory 60%. Lovely bad faith argument there.

Of course, things were so good in E. Germany that thousands of W. Germans flocked to the the east because it was safer, had a greater quality of life, more prosperous economy - in fact, they had to build a massive barrier across the country to stop them going in such huge numbers
The year is 1858.
Britain faces yet another election.
Leader of the Opposition, Sir Kenneth Starmer, Earl of Holborn, seeks support to form an alternative government to that of former Viceroy of India, Rishi Sunak.
