This time of year we all flood social media with screen shots of fleece weights from young rams and perfectly rolled up crimpy fleeces sitting on scales, (I have those photos too) but these sheep are what makes us tick, our commercial twins, just run of mill plain ewes doing there thing growing wool and lambs, and shearing like butter.

@k_bolto We don’t need to be breaking any records with these as they are treated as a conventional 1 year, not currently pregnant and not due to be joined until December, but 100g will comfortably get us where we need to be

A pure stand yes, but not always just for silage, we can graze, bale wrap, pit silage as above but our preferred option is hay most years. Pit silage gives you the flexibility of when to cut, we’ve cut it when it has had pods forming so it’s a great way to make sure they are all off the paddock but early flowering returns the biggest yield.

Last week Karl, Karen and Lachie from Elders went down to Colac for a look at our wethers on the way to the supermarket shelves, week after week for the last couple of months loads of our wethers are heading from Serp to supermarkets and consistently yielding 48%+ at the 25-27kg carcass weight, proof that good genetics with feed can produce awesome results, Maggie thinks the chops are delicious too!

@DavidSandow1 We’ve learnt that with weight of numbers it doesn’t get out of hand if we can keep it below 7-800mm, hammer it with 100-130 sheep to the hectare, urea, water repeat. And always only grow what we need.
