The U.S. doesn’t trade as one big entity—people and businesses do. They buy things from other countries because they want or need them. The only time ‘we’ as a country get involved is when the government taxes those purchases with tariffs.

@16dalesdeadbug … so they buy less American goods because the prices just went up. If they’re going to pay more they have no incentive not to pay more to subsidize less productive industries at home.

@Geiger_Capital Reagan did exactly that when he came into office with interest rates at 12%. He hit the brakes in the printers and they paid for it for 3 years. He won a landslide in ‘84 with 58% of the vote. He’s a modern president.
